Default How much paint do you need?

We are trying to find out how much paint it takes to paint a sports car. I don't know why we are trying to find out just yet but if I find out I'll let you guys know . My Captain is probably planning on buying a beat up car or something... oh great.

Um... What kind of sports car? How big? Why does it matter? The amount of paint you use isn't really the big cost item.

Obviously it'll depend on the size of the car. The amount of coats you intend to apply. How complete a job you intend on doing (engine bay, trunk, interior nooks, etc). But you probably be looking at around min 2 gallons of the color and don't forget the clearcoat. Also you need to take into account what type of color (metallic or non), that will add a step into the process.

Last time I painted a small car (using auto paint over twenty years ago) it took one gallon of paint and three or four gallons of thinner for one good coat. Todays paint may be a different formulation but coverage is probably not much different.
