I do the factory 7500 miles. I'm a poor college student.

As far as another oil alternative, the new (In the US) Castrol EDGE is supposed to have 8x the wear protection of Mobil 1. :dunno:

No point in changing synthetic every 3000 miles, unless you only drive your car 3000 miles every year ... like I do ... then I change it every 9 to 12 months or so, depending on my mood haha.

Changing your oil anything more frequent than that is quite a waste, unless all your 3000 miles are on the track ... then that's a different story

But ya, colour of the oil doesn't tell you anything. The oil could look nice and clean, but the checmicals could have very well been broken down already

Amsoil has been proven to be the best test after test ... unfortunately I don't have access to that in where I live, so I simply stick to Mobil

some cars can last up to 7K between oil changes.
Some cars, including the S2000, which has a 7,500 mi / 12 mo change interval.

I change my oil between 6-7.5k mi or 12 months, depending on when I have time in that period. Changing dino oil at 3k is a waste, and changing synth oil at 3k is ridiculous - you might as well pour it back in the bottle and resell it.

Fwiw, some cars go 15k between changes.

I think you're wrong. The "Maint Req" light is just an oil change interval light. Before I had my car, my buddy had an 02 sebring that we took to deals gap the first weekend he had it. While going through the gap, the maint reg. light came on and blinked at start up. We freaked thinking something was wrong with the car. We stopped, checked all the fluids, smelled around...nothing.

we drove back to the store, got on the internet, and found it was just an oil change warning.

Hilarity ensued.
