How visible is the S2000 to radar?

Sure,

They make radar absorbent paint but it is IMHO an ugly flat grey. I remember reading about an RX-7 R1 that was custom made. No real improvements over the norm, but it looked cool. As the body became a radar absorbent the motor still remained a significant signal reflector.

As for signal deflection, It is going to take some real mods that you would be better off buying you own track of land and hauling A$$ out there!

As for one radar gun jamming another, If your radar gun and the other radar gun were at the exact, I mean exact, frequency. It would cause the RFI ( Radio Frequency Interface ) lite to come illuminate and the operator would know that a possible active signal jam was in process or a lot of radio interference was occurring in the area. (example @ airports and microwave towers etc.). In most cases 2 radar guns would be slightly out of sync with the ideal setting that they would over look each other. Like your radio in your car at 105.10 FM Vs 105.30 FM.

I can guarantee when using radar a Semi would be detected long before an s2000. Refer to the photograph concept.

Keep in mind that radar is a verification tool. A police officer only need to witness(observe) you speeding not prove to an exact number in terms of MPH that you were speeding. With Lidar, VASCAR and several frequencies of RADAR, there is no real cost effective countermeasure available to the public.

My advice to everyone is to just slow down. Save the high-speed stuff for the track.

Be safe!

Is there any way to test for improved stealth design. Like mounting some sheet metal on a 45 degree angle behind the front nose piece?

What would happens to another radar gun if you point yours it?
Can a gun be radar gun be used as an illegal jamming device?
Is there a way to check signal strength? ie. a semi can be picked up a 5000ft but the s2000 gets within 1000ft before you gun goes off?

Just some thoughts - I know you not a lab...

If the police radar is at a given frequency X and the moving target created a doppler shift of Y, and the radar signal returned to the police radar at the shifted frequency of X+Y, then a radar mounted in the car would have to emit a frequency somewhat lower than X (a difference less than Y). If both radars were at the same frequency, it would give the police the same exact reading, since the same doppler shift would occur. The doppler shift would just happen due to the gun moving, instead of the target moving.

Great thread. Nice to have laymans terms presented. Have read many articles both on the web and in mags that often give facts and figures, but often miss the mark in terms of real life usefullness. Does Skipx have a bit of inside(peace officer)knowledge, or just studies what interests him? Regardless, thanks!

All,

Radar and sonar have alway facinated me. Also, I have a few friends that are State Patrolmen and Police officers here in North Carolina. My older bother was an AW/SR (Anti-submarine Warefare and Search and Rescue) airman in the US Navy.
