WhiteS2k, I think this is a good indication of what is going on. Evidently, he parked the car with the handbrake only and it rolled, probably causing damage. Now, it seems that he is trying to get Honda to cover the damage under warranty as he thinks there's a "serious problem" with the handbrake. Yes, I'm guessing. There's not a whole lot of information here.

Whites2K,

Yes I do have to be careful what I say.

Yes you are correct, I apologies for the lack of information regarding the thread on failed handbrakes. To put you in the picture what actually happen. I had only popped out and drove @12 miles, in those 12 miles I stopped once to go to the shops took 10 mins. I parked the S2 t the top of the drive which is level, but the rear wheels where on the slope. After arriving home, closed my double gates, car was in neutral about 1 hr 20 the S2 had rolled through the gates and landed some 20m + on the road which is quite busy with cars and people. As the handbrake was fully up, to get the car back up the drive I had to then release it to drive the car.

I have taken it up with Honda UK, they do not see the situation as a problem if it only happens to a small number of cars. If there is a great number of people that this has happen to, then I may have a case against Honda regarding the problem.

I am getting an independent engineer to look at it, but I do not think it will show the fault that I experienced.

Know I do not trust the handbrake so it is always parked in gear.

I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Cheers
Tim

Sorry, but this sounds like a case of you not knowing what you are doing. You parked the front of the car on a level plain but the rear on a slope. Common sense tells you that you should have put the car in gear. You didn't the car rolled backwards into the street. Your assumption that it's not your fault because the handbrake eventually had to be released is incorrect. The reason why you had to put the handbrake down to get it back up the drive is because you were going forward at this point. This should immediately indicate to you that had the car been in 1st gear, the car would not have rolled down (reverse).

and i thought that we (in the U.S.) were a litigious society. heaven forbid that someone take responsibility WHEN THEY SCREW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You also may want to look into the feasibility of suing your driving instructor too.... they must have forgot to instruct you as to the proper was to park a manual transmission automobile. Also perhaps name you primary school english teachers becuase they ddin't teach you how to read the manual, and while we're at it throw in your physics teachers (oh, and sir isaac newton) for failing to demonstrate the effect of gravity upon a object and object.

for me personally, this thread has become the absolutely, positively, most annoying thread ever. it is the proverbial "train wreck" that from which i cannot avert my eyes.

That's me, I just call it like I see it...

This thread definitely proved me incorrect. There are obviously TONS of folks, everywhere in the world, suffering from an ineffective parking brake on the S2000... I smell a world-wide class action suit.
