Duh why didn't I think of that? Guess I'm just so frustrated that my mind is clouded. Anyways I just wanted to say to all of those who have replied, read, and PMed me, you all are like a community of friends alone. If not for you all, I swear that I would have gone mad with all of my frustrations and anger. It actually help to put this post up and and vent my frustrations and get feedback on it. Once again I would like to thank S2KI.COM and all members who have giving their time to make me feel better. Car enthuasiast or owners you all make a great bunch. I will keep this thread alive as to my dealings with this person. I have sent over 10 emails over the past two day in order to contact this person. I now have a phone number and a real name of the person who lives at that address. I think it is some kid who thinks it funny to mess with peoples money because a Kenneth Kovacs resides at that address. Steve Kovacs is probably his son. Anyways thank you all once again and I will update on this situation.

let us know how the phone conversation goes tomorrow. if you get any hesitation, post the number on this board, I'm sure many people would love to give the dad (if that's who it is) a piece of mind.

Hi KYS2000 - sorry to hear about your troubles. I haven't had any problems doing transactions with people on this board, but I used to deal in paintball equipment on eBay and elsewhere, and over time I saw about 2-3% of my private transactions go sour due to deadbeats. It's just the nature of commerce over the internet that makes some people, usually those already predisposed to dishonesty, think they can get away with it.

But some encouragement for you: in the some 25 or 30 instances where my buyer or pre-paid seller went deadbeat, only twice did I not get satisfaction. The first was likely a career conman (spoofed identity) whom I could never track down, and the second was operating as a dime-store business whose many creditors were denied compensation when he filed for chapter 11 protection. All of the others eventually paid up. But I had to work for it, and I believe that if you persevere, your deadbeat won't get away. You have an address and a phone number, and that is usually all you need to get satisfaction.

The ideas and opportunities already posted - an invoice sent certified mail, keeping track of your time, etc. - are all excellent, and I second them. But my best advice is to simply play at a somewhat lower level and inundate your deadbeat with calls, emails, mail, etc. I've found that calls in the middle of the evening (7-9:00pm) and early morning (6:00am) are most effective. Twice a day is good - three-four times daily is better. And don't back off when you get a promise of compensation - only when your refund or product is in hand.

$200 isn't a mint, but it's more the principle of the thing than the amount that matters. And If you keep up the pressure, I'd lay a bet that he'll cave. If your theory of the perp being a kid is sound - so much the better because the parents are more likely to help than not.

Finally, I have what may be some specific help for you. First, I live in Chicago, but not terribly near the address of your perp. I know the general area though - it's pretty far north of the city, and Grand Ave. isn't a huge freeway. It's a 2/4 lane suburban highway, and I wouldn't find it at all surprising if it was resedential in places.

There's something else you may find interesting. I four-11'd for your perp and found an address discrepancy. You listed 118 E. Grand, but the only Kovacs in Lake Villa is at 218 E. Grand. So unless you typo'd the address, I'd bet dollars to donuts that your perp asked a neighbor/friend/accomplice to take the payment at his/her place down the way to "throw you off the trail". I saw this particularily useless tactic used several time with some of my younger deadbeats. Here's the four11 link, for your reference: http://phone.people.yahoo.com/py/psPhoneSe...+villa&State=il

I wish you good luck. With the right information and perseverance, you will almost definitely win. You're not powerless and always remember that the moral and legal right is on your side.

Regards,

Cool thank you fotch for your support and help. Yes I have been trying to dial the number since yesterday and today but all I get is no answer or a busy signal. I am sending a letter to him today heres what it says

Attn: Mr. Steve Kovac

I just discovered that my money order to you for the purchase of your ApexI Vtec Air Flow Converter has been cashed on October 10. In the past your were always very timely in responding to my inquiries, but now that it has been a while since you have responded to me I am starting to worry about my purchase. Since ordering over the internet is always a little risky I hope you don't mind the formal nature in which I sent this letter. Would you please contact me as soon as possible in regards to my purchase or a possible refund incase you can not provide me with the product. Since you have been so helpful in the past I do not want to overreact and get small claims courts involved. I have done this in the past and always wondered why someone would incur paying his own legal fees, my legal fees, interest, and court costs which turn a few hundred dollars debt into a several thousand dollar debt. If you respond to this letter and within 30 days provide me with either a full refund of $200.00 dollar (my payment) or ApexI Vtec Air Flow Converter (the product) then any necessary legal action will not be taken. However if you should choose not to, then I will file action against you in the Lake County Illinois Small Claims Court where upon you will be sued for the amounts of the original money order, my time invested to try and obtain my money or product, mileage of my trips, and any other suffrages that I feel may pertain to this occurrence. If you choose to refund my money or to ship me the product which you agreed to, please send either one to this address.

P.S. You can reply to me by mail or email me at SCL6781@hotmail.com and work something out then I will not choose this route.

Hopefully if this is some brat kid then it will scare him into replying to me. This will go out certified also.

Good luck with everything Henry...Hope everything works out for you in the end and you get your money or parts one way or another...

On a side note, you ought to make the trip north to his home and break a knee or two and teach him not to mess with people's money that are from Kentucky! Lemme know if you need some backup!
