No tell me you don't tear the tags off the pillows. The pillow police are coming! I made it to 600. Now at 750 I just finished chasing TexS2K down 360 at 100+. What a rush. Would have been better had that butthead not pulled out in front of us.

hahaha I VTEC'ed several times on my test drive of my car. I took it on a back country road with the salesman and got it up to around 85 so I could tell if I really wanted to buy it. Then I took my wife for a drive after that and went even harder on it- though I don't think I ever went above 8500 RPM's.

Also, people here have said a variety of throttling is better during breakin. Many have also said since the pistons are forged and the new engines don't need the same kind of breakin as rebuilt engines.

I VTEC'd mine several times during it's run-in.

I'm getting my engine replaced next month.

Not related though. Promise

Psssst...hey, DJHohum....over here....

(In my best whisper...) Do you really think all these hardcore car lovers that say they NEVER went over 5k in the breakin could really stand it when some bimmer pulled up next to them at a light revving their engines? AS IF!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. And besides, if something does go wrong, you've got the warranty to fall back on. Do you really think they have a way to know if you VTEC'd in the breakin? If you're really worried, do what I did. Buy the extended warranty. I've got a decade to have this baby crap out on me without any liability!

I think the non-USA manuals say the breakin should be 1000 km. 1000km is 621 miles but our manuals say 600 miles. I think BOTH figures are something of a "guess" as to how long it takes to breakin the engine. THE VERY WORST you should expect from less than ideal breakin is perhaps a minor effect on engine longevity. Maybe it will last 150,000 instead of 160,000 miles. I wouldn't worry.

I think VTECing at 570 miles is not in any way different from VTECing at 621 miles (1000km) or 600 miles (Honda's USA recommendation.)

Several of us have had short block replacements and I believe these have NOTHING to do with breakin. Having said that, my new block has 240 miles on it and none above 5,000 rpm. I'm going to follow a more gradual breakin than the manual recommends, just to be overcautious.

This is more important: CHECK YOUR OIL every time you buy gasoline for the first 5,000 miles, and longer if your engine is consuming oil. If you engine is not using oil at 5,000 miles, you should still check the oil at least every other or every third fill-up. This might really make a difference.
