Yeow. I have heard of a couple people doing it on the site to get that aftermarket intake sound. Man, does it ever create a growl when you are on the accelerator in 2nd gear. It makes one thing, why buy an intake when you can have the sound for free?
Would an aftermarket intakes create a louder growl? Is removing the stock airbox cover bad for the engine? What is heatsoak?

All-trick'd-out a few guys in the UK do this from time to time however the general way of getting a great sound is to fit a PRM intake if you don't want to go the whole hog of CAI and exhaust system.

PRM are based in Canada and Jerry who runs it is quick to respond and from the dyno tests on cars that have them fitted it adds a few bhp to the car, a marginal increase I know. It also helps stop too much dirt etc getting in which, I believe and may well get flamed for, can be a problem with longer term removal of the air box lid.

Plus a PRM looks great in the engine bay

Have a look..... http://www.prmracing.com

It makes more noise but sucks hot air reducing performance. Not a great way to go.

Form should always follow function. Removing the intake box won't hurt at WOT, but
the decrease in performance from sucking in the hot air from the engine bay while starting
from a stop or slow roll will negate any WOT advantage. In the end, what occasion is more
frequent, starting the car from a stop or slow roll or cruising along at 8,900 rpm's?
If you want intake honk, get an intake and protect your filter appropriately; otherwise,
you're creating a 235hp S2000.

not a good idea. the intake temperature will be at least 20-30F higher than ambien temperature at speed and even higher at idle. if you want sound without spending money, cut off the resonator next to the filter box. that will make your engine louder when rev'ed above 5k.
