Default S2K Intake question

Last night I took the air box cover off so I could get an idea what my car would sound like with a CAI. I have to say that I enoy the sound the engine makes when you hit V-tec. Just like I did with my old 00 Si. but....

1) I noticed in idle that the intake gives off VERY loud noticable humming sound. I am guessing it will do this with a CAI too? Has anybody else noticed this?

2) Does any one make a short intake that would fit up in the engine bay, (ie the same position the stock intake is in). I would rather not worry about the deep water.

3) Has anyone tried replacing their stock filter with a K&N and driving with the air box cover off?

Thanks for the help

I was on a waiting list for a CAI clone to AEM and Injen and while the Group Buy was moving along at a snails pace I kept running across thread after thread of these types of CAI Hydrolocking engines and quickly started to do more research!
I ended up buying PRM intake and I am glad I did! I didn't notice much difference while driving conservatively but, Hit Vtec and it lets out a Howl up to redline! Very Nice Sound!!!!
I was reluctant at first because I didn't feel the PRM was a true CAI because the horn sits a couple inches from the fender opening so it inevitably draws some air from the engine compartment so I am going to make an extension out of Carbon Fiber or Aluminum to place the horn in the fender well through the opening thus giving you a CAI without the fear of ingesting water from a low filter position!

Thanks for the reply

I used the search feature and found the answers I was looking for. I am definitaly leaning towards the PRM.

I put a "K&N" air filter from a v-10 dodge ram (huge air filter) and cut out the baffles in the air box and removed the top of the air box. I used a pvc pipe coupling to make the filter connect to the intake tube. I also made a cold air extension from a shop vac hose and a funnel in the grill. It sounds great, improved my horsepower and cost me about $50 total. It's a pretty clean look, it doesn't look ghetto at all. After my $660 a month car payments I can't afford much else!
