of course you and others would because of its social status. but take a lambo and imagine that it has lower social status than the S. you might still pick the lambo due to its looks, but really think about the status factor. how do u think a prius, basically a techno corolla, became a popular thing. celebs drove them. STATUS.
i believe that many old men (and women, Ms. Perky and friends) love and bought the S because they dont care so much about status as youngsters do. they know a good thing/deal when they see it, instead of letting status fog over their objective vision.

I'm sure there are a lot of car nuts who would love to have both a S and a Ferrari. And if they'd rather have one, with no strings attached I'm sure most would pick the Ferrari.
I'm sure quite a bit of people would want one for status, but I'm sure quite a bit would also get one because of the car itself and not what it represents in terms of status.
I know you can't "get around" the higher cars being a "status" symbol but it surely wouldn't be anywhere near my criteria for buying a car.
If I had infinite money, I'd buy cars from a RHD Civic Type R to a Carrera GT. A 911 Turbo to a Toyota Yaris.
I'm with jason on this too. I like style. I like my clothes to fit and be comfortable, but I don't spend a lot of money on them. I wear diesel jeans (I only have 1 pair BTW) but I don't wear them for the name, I wear them because they are comfortable.
I realize I might be in the minority on this one.
just another thought can an ariel atom compare to the world's best supercars? a S, given a bit more power and dropping a bit of weight could be argued to be a distant counsin to the atom.
I guess with 15% drivettain loss, I have a 500hp S2000. Just wanted to brag as I've never been fortunate enough to drive a supercar, but I sure have a lot of fun in my S. I guess the main differences would be handling and high speed stability. The S was designed to max out at 160ish, therefore lacks the aerodynamic design to perform well at higher speeds which is where IMO supercars shine and separate themselves from the tricked out Evos, Ss, and other modded cars.
dyhppy, please stop making funny questions such "ariel vs supercars" please dude take it easy, ariels are Toys etc etc .... no more funny questions pleaseeeeee you can start flame wars confusing all of us here.

[QUOTE=dyhppy,Nov 1 2006, 06:39 PM]in the early days of s2ki and the s2000, before it became a asian ricer car, the most common person to be seen driving it was an old white man (in my area).
why are so many people being closed minded.
saying that the ariel atom is a toy isn't much consolation to the ferrari it burns.
granted the S nor the atom were designed to go 200 mph. but who actually takes a car anywhere near that fast off a racetrack.
sideways, any personal comparisons to driving your car and exotics?
