I recently considered buying an '04, b/c I like most of the changes (aside from the lowered redline), at least on paper. Then, I came up w/ a better plan: for less money than a trade to an '04, I'm getting a Vortech S/C, 17" Volk CE28N wheels, Comptech flywheel, and better clutch. I don't expect to feel "torque-disadvantaged" vs. an '04 after I get all this installed!

The difference in redline is 800 rpm (8,000 vs. 8,800).

I'd still go with the 2.0L.
I'm sure that the flatter torque curve of the 2.2L makes for improved driving on the streets, there's something about the 9000rpms that gets me going.

From what I understood before and after I got my own S2000...

S2000 = 9000rpms
I felt that this alone made the S2000 stand-out against the rest of the DOHC VTEC equipped Hondas.

I don't agree with Honda's decision with the 2 cupholder theme.
I don't like the new front bumper (sorry guys).

The S2000 didn't really need much improvements IMHO, but if they did...

1. add bigger/stronger brakes to go with the larger wheels
2. make that faux duct in the front functional
3. put a clock where it can be seen without opening the radio door
4. make the tachometer change color when the car is in VTEC
5. structural reinforcement at known weak points
6. flash programmable ECU
7. louder stereo
8. improved clearance under the hood for Mugen CAI

i have to agree with most of the people in this thread....
this is my opinion of the car:
part of the appeal of the s2k is the rawness of it
9000 redline
120hp/liter

its just like when you buy a ferrari or porsche
you buy for heritage and prestige just as much as you buy for the car qualities.

another example would be the skyline...with the R32-R34 it was always AWD-I6 tt that made it appealing
the new skyline (G35 model) has an V6 which is smoother and generates nearly the same amount of power NA doesnt quite do it for me (its a GREAT car, but its a different appeal than the GT-R's have).
ok dont flame me saying the G35 is not the R35 or anything obvious like that. if and when the R35 comes out, and it keeps the rawness of the R34 then it will be another skyline. if the car is faster but it loses AWD or I6 design...it just isnt the same car anymore.

wow that was long.

Agreed.

The G35 is indeed a Skyline, but it's no GT-R.

Other than sound, how is the driving experience different with a 2.0L as compared to the 2.2L..............won't they hold gears for roughly the same length of time? The driving experience would seem exactly the same assuming the rest of the car is exactly the same.

Not arguing, but if you measure the S2000 by the same rules as a rotary then it's actually 1000cc (volume displaced in a single revolution). Same as how the 1000cc 4 stroke bikes are considered to be equivalent to 500cc 2 strokes.
