Default Installing Rick's wind deflector?

I got my Rick's deflector in the mail yesterday. The OEM deflector does about no good - and you really need something on the cool/cold days we have had lately.

Reading the instructions I am not sure I will ever install it

Man, I have to get some special SuperGlue (only one brand will do?), SuperGlue accelerator, seperate the OEM blocker holder without breaking it (I wonder how much it costs if I do?), etc. Man sure seems like a lot of work.

Have you installed one? Tell me it is not as hard as it "Reads" ?

I wonder if I can send my OEM blocker to Rick and for a modest fee get it installed?

I installed mine a few months ago. I remember the hardest part for me was seperating the black holder. Mine was glued together like a mother!! I think Rick's instruction's said to use a credit card to help seperate it - make sure to use a card that you won't need to use anymore(such as an expired one, etc.). I ended up ripping my card up. Once I got the black holder split apart, the rest was pretty easy. I ended up just using Krazy glue with mine and everything has held up just fine.

I made my own windscreen and used a putty knife, maybe 2 of them to get the holder mechanism apart, and glued it back together with a 2 part epoxy for plastics and it has held up fine. Sure was noisy breaking it apart - I never would have tried it had I not found Rick's thread about doing it. If you still don't want to do it, maybe there is someone around your area that could break it apart for you - only takes a couple of minutes. The rest is easy.

So who is willing to help near Hermitage, TN????

I installed Rick's 7/8 windscreen etched and it was pretty nerve racking breaking apart the holder but once you get started it separates easily. Be sure and put plenty of glue in there when going back together with it or you will end up with a terrible rattle like I have. I have tried to get it apart again to re-glue it but I must have glued to well around the edges because it absolutely will not separate. It rattles less in the down position so that is where I usually keep it. I guess I will end up ordering a new stock one but I really liked the logo on the one from Rick's. Anywho.... use plenty of glue!!

A couple of small putty knives work better than the credit card thing. Work slowly and don't try to pry apart too much at a time. I used a combination of superglue, silicone sealer and epoxy but that may have been overkill. After you put it back together again, clamp it in several places with those little plastic locking clamps. Or just duct tape the thing at critical points till it's good and stuck.
If you bust it, all is not lost. It only takes money to by a new one.

I live in Nashville. I put a Rick's screen on my car. I'll be glad to assist you if you bring it to my house. If I can help you send me a PM.

Thanks Andrew!

Do you have the "correct" glue and the accelerator or do I need to track them down?

I may give it a shot myself and just be careful. Maybe Rick is just covering his butt with all the warnings (so no one will try to make him pay for the replacement if they break the OEM holder)

I live out in Hermitage and work in Madison.

DWynne, it really isn't as hard as it seems. I've probably done 20 by now, and I can tell you that it's almost impossible to do any damage to the stock mechanism. A one-inch stiff putty knife, with one layer of duct tape over the blade, is the the easiest way to do this.
