interested in buying a s2000, need some opinions
Hi,
I am new to the site and was looking for some opinions. Right now I have a 2001 BMW 330i. It is a beautiful car, and I have done some rather nice mods to the exterior and engine. I am extremely pleased with the engineering of the car and the look, however I have always loved how the s2000 looks and the power that it encompases. I have always wanted a roadster, and with the exception of the BMW Mcoupe, I dont like BMW roadsters. I was thinking of selling my 330i and getting an S. What do you guys think? Honest opinions please.
Thanks,
John

Owning a 2-seat roadster had been a life-long dream of mine that was fully satisfied when I got my S2000. I've never owned a BWM, but have driven in many. They're great cars, but no more enjoyable to drive than the S2000.
Well this is an S2000 forum, so I suspect most of us will tell ya to get one.
I see you are in PA, there are lots of people who do drive their S2000 in the winter although I am not one. If the S will be your only car I would strongly suggest you get a hardtop, it will make winter driving a lot better!
The S will be very different than the 330i. Be sure to really get some test-drives in, I would suggest test driving some used ones, then you can really let the engine rip, like it is intended to be used. Many of us a very sensitive about taking a brand new engine, sending it up to 9,000 rpms and then letting some other person buy it as new.
For me, getting an S2000 was an absolute must. I really believe an open top car is the fountain of youth! I would say go for it, but I'm biased.....

Like you, I love cool cars and I've always wanted a roadster. After five years of mulling the roadster thing (started wanting Boxster, but wised up), I got my S three weeks ago today. You sound like you enjoy mods; there are also plenty of opps for that with the S, as you will see by the sig lines on this board.
I do have a daily driver; this is my fun car. That said, GET IT! Listening to the engine purr and growl is nearly as fun as taking the curves at speed. Not to mention how distinctively cool this car looks.

BMW makes outstanding cars without a doubt. In addition to an S, I also have a '98 328ic, which I've also thoroughly enjoyed. When I was looking for a new car, I had to decide between an M Coupe (w/the 240 hp engine) and the S. Although the M was blazingly fast, handled superbly, and has excellent brakes (attributes the S has), I ultimately decided upon the S b/c it's a funner car to drive. However, going from a 330, you better get used to a significantly harsher ride, wind/engine noise...in others words, the S is a straight-up sports car. Also, I assume the S won't be your only car since it can store maybe a duffle bag and, although the gas mileage is pretty good for a sports car, the tank is really small so the range sucks.
