jiffy lube
JL's reputation precedes them, but the majority doesn't always speak for the whole. There's definite exceptions to every rule. I had poor service at a couple Honda dealerships when I had my two Hondas, and good service at no-name shops. And vice-versa.
I do agree that it's best to do it yourself, and cheaper too.
I've been doing my own oil since '04 and it's saved quite a bit of cash.

Look....bottom line is this. If you HAVE to take your car to someone else to change the damn oil..... the LEAST you can do is check their work BEFORE you drive off.
Check Oil, Oil Cap, Oil Level, Oil filter, under the car etc. Christ, it takes only 2-3 minutes.
If you drive off without an oil cap, or worse no oil.... you deserve what ever happens to you.

wow you people are so narrow minded. all you do is watch the media and base your conclusions off of that.
that stupid 20/20 thing was all based in the Compton CA area and thier statistics of being ripped off also included stupid stuff like not checking tires and not filling the battery water!! oh NOOOO
theres a scene in that video where they say jiffy lube charged them for a fuel filter but before hand they suposobly marked the fuel filter. and anyone that know anything about cars knows that they marked the fuel pump.
seriously i would not lie about a stupid part time job i had. yes there are alot of shady jiffy lubes but you can tell as soon as you pull up weather its going to be a good experiance. ever since that 20/20 story the procedures changed. we sign and date the oil filters. most of them keep camras and a tv in the waiting room for them to watch.
we had a lady come in and go across the street to eat. by the time she came back we were done and she was pissed and she said we never even opend the hood. so we take her up stairs and rewind the video and show her that we did the oil change. all she had to say is wow you guys are fast
im not saying take your cars there. personally i wouldnt either if i had not worked there in the past. but i dont see the point in telling people not to go because you say somting the media showed you .

i agree
Jiffy Lube is another corporation simply feeding off of Americans who aren't able/are uncomfortable with changing their car oil. It's a simple job, but imagine a mother of 4 or a 70 year old person trying to change their car oil.....just don't really imagine that happening often. Thus, the creation of Jiffy Lube.

i supplied all the oil, filter, and gasket to a local honda dealership to do my first oil change for me. they still charge me $20. labor is so damn expensive, but i guess eveyrone says you need to do your first oilchange at the stealership... so i did... it sucked majorly, but they did an ok job.
for a lot of people 30 bucks every like 5 months is not expencive and would rather do somthing better than changing oil on thier day off. i understand that everyone has the same feelings because this is an automotive enthusiast forum but not every one feels the same about thier cars. shit i cant even convince my parents to take thier cars in for service.
my mom has like 10,000 miles on her TL and she just got her first oil change

Jiffy Lube or "insert name here lube". I would not knock one place over the other. It's the PEOPLE that run and work at the place that make the difference.
You can go to a "quickie lube" place and get a "grease monkey" <not a derogatory name where I come form> working on your car. He / she may be a professional, or not. Odds are, they are an automobile enthusiast. They may be attention to detail folks or not. The same thing can happen at a dealership, where you get "factory trained technicians".
While I'll say first and foremost, I've never received anything but TOP NOTCH service from my Honda dealer, I've got quite a nice selection of tools / spare parts, found in / on / under my previous cars, serviced at Chevrolet and Ford dealers. I've dealt with some real jackasses.
The long and short of it is... if you can't service your car yourself, take it somewhere where you know / trust the people who will be working on it. Either personally, or by reputation.
You can get top notch to crappy service from a quicky lube just like you can from a dealer.
Most of the mechanics who work on real race cars DONT work at dealerships, but at locally owned shops.
