Kills Forum????LONG
I personally don't like the idea of a street racing forum but I'm not opposed to it being here. I agree with many of the points that Paris makes but I do live in the real world and understand that street racing happens and just because I don't like it doesn't mean people shouldn't talk about it. It has to some extent become socially acceptable and after all we do have free speech in this country (U.S.). Let people have whatever forums that they may want. Since I don't like it I won't visit it. I probably wouldn't visit a "best rap music to listen to in your S2K" forum either but that doesn't mean it should be available.
Sorry for the scattered thoughts and run on sentences.

Is this a good subject for a poll?

Molly and Tricks, thank you.
Paris, I don't think you to be a hypocrite or guilty of ranting, I just disagree. IMO, to say that creating a forum for people to post real world experiences (even though they may be viewed through jaundiced eyes) will encourage or discourage certain behaviors just doesn't ring true. That's like saying that because the news shows car chases that more of them will occur. Those that are stupid enough to run will always run - in fact, you'd think that all those folks getting caught and arrested would reduce car chases, but that doesn't seem to be the case (sorry if this seems obscure, it's a Los Angeles thing). If you believe street racing is stupid, then the extrapolation is clear.
Open discussion is always the best policy and everyone's opinions are valid, even if we disagree.

okay, okay...i see i am clearly outnumbered in feeling the way i do. And thats the way it should be...a community should make its decisions on a majority preference, obviously in conjunction with the administrators.
However I would just like to make a few points before I lay this to rest.
Let me respond to the arguments levelled at me in turn;
1) "But Paris and others who prefer to stick your head in the sand and pretend that this sort of driving doesn't happen on a daily basis by a large number of the members here is ludicrous. If you like your fragile world were no one dies, speeds or does anything illegal that is fine. But do not think that because a some users want to actually talk about what the are doing anyway that it is going to lead to more or less accidents or casualties."
Well actually im not trying to stick my head in the sand...as I originally posted, I am well aware that whatever the outcome is in this community, street racing will still occur. The point here is whether we make a specific forum on it or not. I thought this was a bad idea because it might give the impression of the community and its sponsors condoning this type of activity.
Whether or not a specific forum exists, the posts will continue on the subject, and those who wish to read about it can, and those who dont, wont. I didnt see the need for a change.
And on a personal note, I do find some of the race stories exciting, and it is EXACTLY for that reason that I think someone could be encouraged into performing in a street race who otherwise would not have.
2) "I agree with many of the points that Paris makes but I do live in the real world and understand that street racing happens and just because I don't like it doesn't mean people shouldn't talk about it."
I never said that people shouldnt get the chance to talk about it. I said that due to the nature of this activity, I dont think that the community should be effectively seen to endorse it by granting it its own forum. People will continue to post about races whatever the outcome.
3) "Some decided to force what they view as wrong, on my free choice"
I am not forcing my choices on anyone. Lets remember that this is not my choice, mine is only one voice. Its my opinion, thats all, and whatever the outcome, I will still be delighted to keep returning here. Its the exchange of ideas and intelligent debate that are one of the aspects of this place that make it stand above other similar efforts.
4) "That's like saying that because the news shows car chases that more of them will occur." I dont agree with this. I think an equal parallel would be to say that because a program allows readers to send in their own home made videos of street races, that encourages people to race.
Which I think it would.
I appreciate the opportunity to have my say, and wish you all well. No aggravation of people's emotions was intended here.
I hope you have enjoyable and safe weekends
