I stand 6'1" and have a 32" inseam. While long-distance driving I like to be able to occasionally draw my left leg back to rest my left foot flat on the floor. In my three previous roadsters (all Miatas), in order to be able to do this I had to remove the stock inner door handle and replace it with a home-made nylon strap. Otherwise there's not enough space between the door handle and the steering wheel for me to be able to squeeze my knee through.

The nylon strap works just fine, but it looks less than ...refined.

In the S2000s I've test driven and sat in in the showroom -- while I'm awaiting arrival of my own 2001 next spring -- it seems the problem in the stook cockpit is less severe but nonetheless still there -- no matter how far back I move the seat. I haven't been able to take a screwdriver to any of these test cars, of course, to see whether the stock handle can be removed easily by just popping the two plastic caps at either end of the handle and proceeding to unscrew the bolts that I presume are hidden underneath. (In my '99 Miata this procedure was not enough; the door panel also had to be removed in order to get at five smaller bolts that came into the handle from inside the door.)

Does anyone else of my height suffer this problem? Has anyone tried to revise the arrangement to accommodate their left knee?

Roadsurfer, I am just about the same height as you (6'2") and the same inseam of 32". I have only had the car for about 4 weeks, and I have not put any extended, long drives in the car. But so far, the leg room is okay. The left knee has not been at all problem. The right knee rests against the side of the console near the radio. I wonder if the right knee would be uncomfortable on an extended drive. One feature I wished the S2000 had was a tilt steering. A couple of degrees tilt upward would be perfect. Sitting an inch or two lower would also help not that headroom is a problem but visibility would improve.
