I used the EPT sealant, which stopped the rattle. What is the Shin-etsu grease for? Where does it go?

When it was mentioned that this is a 2-part fix... is the shin etsu just for the rubber seals?

Or does this have to be applied to the latches directly as well, in addition to the ept sealant?

shin-etsu is for the rubber..
lithium grease is for the mechanical joints
ept sealant is for the latches

Ah finally a good thread about rattles.

I have had some small rattles....Well it's in the 30's now and my Hardtop rattles like a mo fo. I just took it off 2 days ago and it's sitting in my room till I find a way to fix these rattles. Something rattles in the rear of the car. May be the soft top latches while its down under the hard top.

Yet the top two latches over my head on the passenger side and drivers side rattle non stop. Big bump, little bump, still ratlles like a mo fo. There seems to be so much play, I can hold them with my hand and it rattles less.

I'm not sure if I have hard top strikers or what (bought the car used). I need help, might see if I still have a warranty (it's an 06) and see what they can do!

Did you guys shove the EPT sealant in between the crack where the eye can see? Or did you actually pry the plastic a bit to make room and shove the EPT sealant deep deep inside where the eye can't see?

Anyone know how thick this EPT sealer is? I purchased some foam weather stripping from Home Depot, but the latch-area still rattles. I can try the thicker one if that's how thick the EPT sealer is.

Also, I don't need to fill up the whole thing right? Only a few pieces?

Thanks for the write up!! I used some packaging foam things that I just tore to little pieces, and it worked wonders.
