looking to get an s2000 for a daily driver
well i hope the IP's don't match. otherwise I'll be sorely disappointed.
if you're legitimate then I think way too many people made some immature comments that do NOT speak for the rest of us S2000 owners.
the influx of trolls wasn't appreciated, but i think some of the idiotic remarks made by members here were enough to draw the wrong kind of attention.
however, you did make a comment about an S2000 vs a maxima and I really hope you have more brains than that.
the S2000 is a dead match with an LT1 f-body. this is nothing new. both cars are capable of about 13.7-13.8. but on the top end the S2000 will slightly pull.
I had a friend with a 6 speed LT1 camaro SS. me and him were about as dead even as they could get. we'd trade victories both on the street and at the track. he's one of the better LT1 drivers I've met. (he runs consistent 13.7-13.9). So I don't see anything controversial about it. basically whoever wins the launch will likely win the race.

and in case you want to claim he can't drive.

also, I just wanted to say that you would probably understand why you get some of the responses you do.
if i went over to LS1.com and had my S2000 in my sig, and then posted a thread saying "looking for a camaro for a beater car" and then proceeded to post as you did, having the S2000 in my sig, I'm willing to bet I'd get very similar responses to some here. Probably plenty of comments about the "slower" S2000 and the "no torque" honda, etc. Don't you think?

Ok, there is no reason why someone cannot have an S2K beater. A beater by most definitions would be a well worn but still quite serviceable vehicle used for occasional duty when conditions for more favored vehicles are not ideal (like my 97 Exploder). The problem is, at a maximum age of 5 years, there probably are not many S2Ks that fit that criteria. Most owners take far too good care of the vehicles to allow them to deteriorate to the point where their value is lower than comparable cars of their age. There are probably a few 80 to 100K mile S2K's running around but probably most of them are still reasonably nice. The car holds it's value pretty well.
Ok, the blanket statements about Camaro owners and mullets is pretty offensive and I think you are way off base about other things, for instance I own a Camaro but I've NEVER slept with my sister, yet.
Sin,
Sin,
wow, im really surprised at the maturity of some of these posts. He stated he didnt mean to offend with the word "beater" but people gotta chill. I can take all the redneck jokes you wanna throw at me, but everyone still feels they have something to prove. Its pretty easy to hide behind a computer isnt it? Oh well, I wouldnt recommend the s2 as a daily driver simply because it is impractical, but my car has become not much of one either.
I do have to poke a joke though.....do you guys fear the new eclipse v6? I think you guys have some serious competition with that car....even from the so so mag times.

I definetly agree about my camaro's 6th gear.... I turn like 2k rpms at 80mph
I know that some people are able to get 31+mpg out of ls1 vettes and fbods by coasting w/ that ridiculous gear but I just wanted to know if the average s2000 owner around here actually sees 6th gear on the highway...

Dude!
Really... This is not a daily driver for the economically minded; making trips to the bank!
The S2000 is for a car enthusiast that truly appreciates a fine driving automobile.
However, the S2000 is capable of exceeding 20 MPG on long trips in 6th gear... but who the hell drives a fine machine regularly for gas savings?
My stook is my daily driver. I hate my freakin' job! The only reason I go to it is because I LOVE to drive my car! I don't commute long distances so I don't appreciate a large savings in gas - especially since I feed my girl premium - which is MANDATORY food.
Here's what I have surmised after one year of ownership...
Honda has created a FANTABULOUS fun machine that can commute, AND have fun on the weekends at the track. I can easily chase and pass Porsche Boxters, and most of the front-wheel drive machines. MOST.
For a economical minded requirement, get the Toyota Prius... AWESOME street-commute performance and excellent gas mileage and cargo. And I've heard that the Toyota Prius is no slouch... It can get up and go, and it behaves well on the daily drive.
The S2000 has just enough to make it feel like a spoiled sportscar. The interior is rather spartan - nothing too fancy. Leather seats and terrible storage on the inside. No glove box, per-se.... but the boot is roomy. I can fit two regular golf bags, and style on the way to the course.
The S2000 is a driver's car. It has near supercar performance and is a ball to drive. Where you will appreciate the car's performance is at the track. It would be a shame to see an S2000 wasted on grocery runs and boring commutes.
On long road trips, I do use 6th gear and I do see around 25MPG. The average I see with my stop-n-go 14 mile commute is 20MPG. But that's all premium grade.
My 2cents.

It appears that there is alot of ignorance in this forum. While a nice car, the S2K is not the end all be all corner carver that it is being lauded as.

Camaro SS - 2 minutes, 16.46 sec lap time.
S2000 - 2 minutes, 17.66 sec lap time.
Perhaps a little more respect for the SS and a little less factually incorrect statements about the S2k is in order?
But I doubt it, my post will be deleted as trolling, when in fact I am only presenting the facts.

here is the track where you claim the camaro "beat" the S2000 in the corners.
