Was it love at first sight?
I was looking for something to replace my prelude. Test drove a few boxsters but reports indicated they were unreliable. The S2000 was a competitor of the boxster so I test drove a 02 S2000 with 19,000 miles. It was so rough riding and had so much road noise that I scratched S2000s off my list. Several months later, I tried a 05 S2000 and was happier with the ride how quiet the tire noise was. Now I like the car but it definately had to grow on me.
I have been a car geek ever since I started driving. My dream "realistic" car was the Boxster ever since the concept came out. I was certain that I would own one someday. Then....the S2000 was released a few years later. I loved it immediately. Much better looking, more powerful, and cheaper! Sold! Of course at this time, I was still in college and could not afford one. I test drove the Boxster and liked the feel but never really amazed. I never could test drive an S2000 since it was brand new and dealers only had one in the showroom and rarely allowed anyone to drive it unless seriously interested. 2 years later, I was out of college and saved up enough for a fat down payment for a brand new car. I was looking at S2000's in 03 and found a shiny 02 with low miles and was a killer deal. This was the first time I was able to test drive a S2000 which were still, quite rare to find. The dealer told me to push the car into VTEC. Hooked. Bought the car the next morning.
Just a heads up, this is my first post to this forum.....
But I'll go ahead and share my experience. Since 1999 (my first year post HS) and all my buddy and I saw were magazine articles about the S2000 we wanted to get one. Well, spring forward to December 2005, I bought my first one....2002 berlina black...Loved the car, but I've always been a fan of silver. So back in November, I found a GREAT deal on my current 05' silverstone with 27,000 miles on it, and it was a no brainer!
Between the 2 they have their strengths & weaknesses:
2002 ap1:
-Loved the VTEC "kick' it seemed to have.
-Came with the complete exterior package (OEM front lip, skirts, rear spoiler).
2005 ap2:
-Love the low end torque
-I like the ap2 front & rear bumpers better.
-17" stock OEM wheels
-Car just feels "tighter" as far as the way it's put together
I've experience them both, and hands down I like the AP2 a whole lot more!
Upgrades:
2002 ap1:
-K&N FIPK II intake. I then replaced it with the AEM V2. Personally, I liked the sound & feel of the AEM V2 over the K&N.
-Cusco front upper strut brace.
2005 ap2:
-Just installed a APR front air dam (fiberglass) this weekend.
-Took the Cusco front upper brace off the ap1 and installed it on the ap2.
-Cusco rear strut brace.
-2008 S2000 CR shift knob.

Great stories.
I found interest in the S by unforeseen circumstances. I drove the '04 TSX when it first came out and incurred many mechanical issues, which led me to trade-in the vehicle for another. Then I started to look online for another Acura and somehow got linked to the S2Ki forum from one of the Acura forums and instantly fell in love when I saw the top banner (It was a Silver S2000). I always knew how the S2000 looked like and that it was a Honda, but I never paid much attention to it until I landed on this site. Anyway, it didn't take me long to decide on an used S2000 and test drove couple, then decided on the combination of 1) Mileage 2) Condition 3) Model Year 4) Color 5) Price and ended up with a 2002 Sebring for $17k back in 9/2005. I have been absolutely loving this vehicle and found that there aren't much car that can compare to its raw characteristics and distinct driving experience. However I have been thinking about the e46's due to the need of comfort/fun.
Even then, I'd like to one day buy a Mugen HT, Amuse front bumper, Comptech SC, Rick's 4.57, and Work Meisters along with a reliable beater rather than to trade-in the S for an e46.

i wasnt interested in a s to begin with i was looking for a wrx. when i was driving around to look for the subbie i saw my s sitting across the street so made a u turn and checked out the car and i fell in love with it. must be the color gpw because i passed a berlina s two blocks and it didnt caught my eye but the gpw stood out
Summer of 1999, I was in my mom's van and I saw a flash of purple/blue lights coming down a hill and there came a Berlina Black S2000 coming down the hill towards the mall. I knew I had to get one eventually, even if I was only 11 at the time. Fast foward to my senior year in high school and I get my brand spanking new Suzuka the same day I got my scholarship award letter.
