Well after 840 miles of straight driving (interrupted) by the cops, I made it to Vegas. Ritchie was incredibly kind and insisted I stay at his house. It was a pleasure meeting him. His hospitality and kindness was incredible. After chatting cars for a bit and hanging out, we decided to leave his snakes, water, and cherries behind and check out some of the LV life. You have to remember, the cheesy

Aldo, glad you enjoyed! If you like reading long posts, you can search for my name and see my Miata vs S2000 review, it is 14,000 words long

I will update this thread tomorrow with how the car did and some last pictures.

Easily one of the best posts in a while. Just reading it (which is very enjoyable) makes me want to take off on a cross country trip myself.

Jay,

Everyone talks about taking it, but very few do. I had lots of friends from S2ki/miata.net/elise talk. When I was going to do the trip, asked many, but not many CAN do it, just WANT to. Big difference.

It is a great experience, and I highly recommend it.

I'm 80 percent sure I am trekking from NY to Torrance for homecoming so this thread is of great interest to me.

Loanshark....if you can PM me any tips, dos and dont's, I would appreciate it.

Glad those cops didn't ticket you....they were cocks for pulling you over to begin with. I would have gotten off a wise crack saying...."how could an Elise run anything off the rode....look at this car....its about as big as the donuts you just had for lunch."

Wow.. Love this blog man... Glad you arrived to your destination in one piece and that all your encounters (yes even the one with the cops) went well.. although that was nerve wrecking I bet, even reading it was crazy...

Thanks again for sharing your cross country trip with us...

Out of curiousity what exactly do you do? for a living? Just curious, since most of us here well....to take a trip like that only comes as a dream due to money, time constraints, and other sorts of things...

Please share with us your secret to your successful venture, so that we may do it to!!!

Mike,

That would be fabulous. I have lots of tips, depending on the route you take. I would choose the route depending on the temp of the year. Also depending on how much time you have, I can make recommendations for stops.

Best advice, don't plan everything, and play it by ear. This allowed me to meet different people, have flexible schedules, and I ended up staying in cities and making friends for 2-3 days at a time, when initial plan was only few hours. Be open minded.

Carry lots of change (tolls) and lots of cash for tolls in NJ/PA/OH. I carried cash, though I didn't know the amount of tolls, but really glad I did!
