I made a mesh windscreen very similar to this by hemming a square of black plastic screening and using elastic to hold it down. It did cut down on turbulence, but was too noisy for my taste. The sound was a continuous white noise, like rushing water, not any louder than the wind noise without it but very annoying.
Mesh screens are noisy,and fugly.

how did this one turn out?
This turned out amazingly well. Not as effective as a fabric mesh screen but if you're going to use one of these screen extensions, that's the only way to go - full of holes.

I did it fairly crudely. I sandwiched the screen between 2 pieces of wood and then used a hand drill to punch the holes in a measured pattern. The wood helped to minimize the inherent splitting problem you almost always get when drilling into such material.
Rick's was going to send me a lazer drilled piece for me to experiment with and then market it if it turned out to work. He's always so busy, he never got around to doing this before I did it myself. He never marketed it for various reasons.

Yes, I still use this screen to this very day.
