^^ dont do that.. lol if you hear the engine bogging/lugging your making it work harder than it would if you were to shift a little higher, the more torque the engine generates, the less effort the engine uses to maintain that speed, therefore, for an AP1, the best spot is around 3-3.5k as theres a spike in torque in that area, naturally we have the most torque WAY high in the RPM range, but thats too high where the RPMs outweigh the torque and end up burning more fuel rather than less

If that makes sense.. lol

Actually you DO get the best mileage by bogging the engine. Don't confuse throttle position with gas consumption. They are related but not the same. Wide-open throttle combined with the lowest possible RPM is where the best mileage will be.

Just part of my ongoing MPG educational program here at S2ki.com.

you can do that with a corvette c6 z06. put into 5th gear and no shift until 140MPH. top gear already showed us.

what? you actually waste R gear?! I keep it in 6 all the time, and I just make wide turns instead of reversing.

Keeps my gears healthy!

I've wondered this as well, when i was first driving my S I would constantly be shifting, if I were shifting every 3000rpms, but I've found the cars real sweet spot is 4500 to 5500rpms. I'm still experimenting with this, though, being as I'm a new stick shift driver, and I taught myself how to drive stick in my S2000. I think a lot of it has to do with your clutch work. I've found my drives to me much smoother if I'm fast on the clutch.
