To mod or not- why the controversy?
My opinion- I think a significant portion of posters here care about the opinions of fellow sport car enthusiasts. We're proud of the s2000, and the job HMC did in the design, engineering and production of this car, and we thought long and hard about which car was "best" prior to choosing this one. When Porshe or BMW owners dismiss the s2000 as "just a honda", we cringe, and maybe seethe. So modifications that conjure up images and associations with tacky civics (ie wings that are better suited to a WWI triplane) seemingly bolster the arguements of the cretins who don't recognize the excellence of our car, and by entension, our savvy purchase. I think that something like this is what really "drives" the "fear" of mods- I know it does for me. ( Part of the "problem" with a corvette, for me, has to do with my mental image of it's owner) So the issue gets confused- I think people bolting on a SC, or putting on Rick's console cover, or mingster's deadpedal are enhancing a great car. But I cringe at certain body treatments, even though every s2000 I've physically seen has looked great. And the arguements that mods will harm resale- I personally don't care- to each his own, EXCEPT that how potential buyers view the car in general, affects the value of mine. But, having said that, I don't think one should buy this car if they are fixated on resale value- I think it is almost a certainty that from an investment standpoint, we'd all be better off buying an economy car for $12,000 and investing the other 20k- in 30 years we have a reasonable expectation of having 100,000; and I doubt our car will be worth that much in 30 years, although I hope I am wrong
I couldn't agree more with hecash -- do what the f%ck you want with your car! You paid for it, you pay for gas and insurance for it, you have to maintain it -- if you decide to mod, the you have an understanding that the car is worth more stock than modded and that mods are like flushing money down the toilet. That being said...
I think it is absolutely ridiculous that this subject gets so much attention and causes so much heart-ache and bashing back and forth! I appreciate everyone's right to state their opinion but this has gotten out of hand -- I feel like this board as of late, with these bull$hit threads about stock vs. mods, is turning into like every other enthusiast site out there -- and I am not happy about that! One of the things that really turned me onto the S2000 was the community of folks that came together here to talk about their enthusiasm for this awesome car and to share information.
Far too much whining and bashing going on -- take it somewhere else -- it is not welcome IMO!
