Basic breakdown of whats happening. My dad encourages me to get the S2000. My mom on the other hand doesn't want me to have a manual sports car. If I'm paying for most of it, how come I can't choose my own car then?
I have argued constantly with her, and she isn't going to agree with me buying a used s2k. I've also told her that the insurance is almost the same as the 08 Si. Any suggestions to help me out?

*sorry for the post being so long*
Whoa is me; my parents are helping me buy a car and I'm pissed that I can't choose what I want

Just bustin' your balls man I'm sure I'm gonna have the same battle when my daughter is old enough to drive

Are you kidding me? Hondas are about the easiest thing to learn stick on.
I disagree...well its probably different for everyone...but personally I learned to drive manual with the s2k and I burned my clutch pathetically in 2 days! Everyone's different, some get it RIGHT AWAY like 2 hours, and others just give up altogether. And for the record I fought with my parents to give me this car for over 3 YEARS..finally got one and Ive never looked back or regretted anything. I LOVE and appreciate my car and my parents generosity.
Stop giving this kid such a hard time..if he really wants one he'll find a way but don't say stuff like "oh yeah dude your young so you'll just crash it or kill someone street racing" I say if he's on the s2ki forums looking for advice then he's probably more passionate and will cherish it more then the next guy..

In the world of todays cars the S2000 isnt exaclty the most dangerous thing you can cruze around in. I say, if you REALLY want it you cant just say oh pretty please can I have one, you gotta save up, work on it, argue, prove you're responsible and earn it somehow

if you can't drive a manual then don't get an s2k. i don't want to have to see any more of them sent to the scrapyard.

I am 19 years old. I got my license 1.5 weeks after I turned 16. My first car was a '96 Accord EX sedan. Last December I bought a 2001 Prelude (base model) and have had a blast driving it. BUUUUT, I'm going to try to sell it pretty soon so I can buy an AP1. I do thank the United States military for paying for my Prelude.

Man, if I had an S2000 as my first car I probably would have died in a gigantic inferno. If your mom is supportive of you buying an Si, go for it! Most moms don't want their kids in anything they perceive as dangerous. You haven't posted your age (that I saw) but to be honest I would be scared if my parents let me buy an S2000 when I was 16.

My mom didn't care what I got because she knew I was responsible (mostly) while driving. My dad doesn't really care what I get; he's not paying for it. He still tries to guide me though and help me make some decisions if I ask for help. Good parents will always help look out for your best interest, but that doesn't mean they will hover over you and coddle you constantly.

Now, PM me about buying my Prelude!

You aren't ready for an s2000 at all. Your mom is 100% right.

I just bought a MY00 and I feel like I'm in a different world compared to other RWD manual sports cars I've driven/owned. I haven't pushed this car hard yet and the rear still tried to come around on me leaving my neighborhood. I wasn't even on the gas, I was just turning. Easy correction but if you have no experience, you'd probably have panicked. You're going to push it (it's hard not to) and then you're going to experience "inappropriate vehicle rotation at the point of disappearing talent." Since the car's so capable you'll be at a really high speed before it lets go. You don't want that.

Get a 240sx or something slower and heavier with RWD and all seasons if you want a RWD manual sports car. You can learn to drive manual and then sell it and step up after a year or two once you have some experience under your belt. The all seasons will lose grip sooner and you can play with it in the snow to get an idea of how a RWD car behaves/lets go. Then you'll need to learn how to correct oversteer and how to NOT brake or lift in the corners.

Don't kill another S2k thinking you're living you're life a quarter mile at a time.

Damn, where did I hear that before? Oh yeah....

I really think the Prelude would be an excellent first car for the OP.

my parents practically pushed me to the seat of an s2000 because my dad wanted to give me the best that he could. he said that he doesnt understand why other people deprive their kids of the best stuff. of course i could tell my mom disagrees with getting me an S2000 at first... but then again my dad's my dad. he's the head of the family, and in the end he PWNS my mom and he makes the final call. we ended up going to the dealership one day that my mom was at work and bringing home the car. i cant belive your parents dont wanna give you the best they can.
