My mom didn't agree with my talon or the S, I got both. If you're paying for it or whatever, it doesn't matter. My Civic was paid by her so guess what, I took it happily despite me rather having the GTI/WRX. But when it came close to graduation time and for me to take over the payments, the Civic got traded for the S.

Basic breakdown of whats happening. My dad encourages me to get the S2000. My mom on the other hand doesn't want me to have a manual sports car. If I'm paying for most of it, how come I can't choose my own car then?
I have argued constantly with her, and she isn't going to agree with me buying a used s2k. I've also told her that the insurance is almost the same as the 08 Si. Any suggestions to help me out?

*sorry for the post being so long*
I was still in school and living at home when I bought my first car (with my own money), and I wanted a sports car. My mom didn't want me getting a convertible, because she (rightly) felt that they were more dangerous than a car with a fixed roof. I compromised, and bought a 1500S Ghia, the forerunner of the Porsche 914. The Ghia was quite a bit faster than the kind of sports car I'd have bought, cornered a LOT harder, and to this day the cars are still so rare that most people wouldn't know one if it ran them over.

I decided to compromise to keep my mom happy, we were both happy with my choice. A little over a year later I traded the Ghia (big mistake, but I didn't realize then that the car would be considered a collectable one day) for an MGA, with mom's blessing.

This is a decision you have to make for yourself, but sometimes when you are living with your parents you have to make a few compromises.

Quit working your Mom. Bust your Dad's balls for not letting his nutz hang and making the decision for your mom.

Trust me on this, don't get the civic cause you will be wanting the S EVERY SINGLE DAY. Learn from my mistake (I'll be correcting it soon) and get the S although if you don't have the experience it may be dangerous

Meh, its for the better. One less crashed s2k (statistically) which means less INS for all of us to pay in the end.

Just my opinion, get a car that you can pay and maintain 100% to show her you are responsible. In a few years when you are working get the S with your own money and then no one can tell you what to do.

I still don't understand why the objection seems to be centered on the manual transmission. What if you suggested an automatic 350Z?

I guess your right, my mom's a little too protective over me, but I've been told on this site never settle anything less then you want.
That's only if you're paying for EVERYTHING on the car (gas, insurance, monthlies, mods etc). Otherwise, just keep driving the Si and appreciate it coz there are millions of other kids who have it a lot worse than you.
