Mom doesn't agree with the s2000.
I like the idea of starting from the bottom, my first modable car was an 89 crx HF (stock 60hp) ran a 19.4 stock, 600 bucks later ran a 14.8 and I learned how to drive better, how to mod, and how to fix things that broke down. Then moved to an EG coupe, then a DSM (dont do this unless u want to have a big turbo car on the side of the highway) then the S. Just now starting the mod process but if I had an S as my first "Modable car" I probably wouldnt be here.. oh and im 22 now almost 23 and I have had 8 cars.

I still don't understand why the objection seems to be centered on the manual transmission. What if you suggested an automatic 350Z?

I was still in school and living at home when I bought my first car (with my own money), and I wanted a sports car. My mom didn't want me getting a convertible, because she (rightly) felt that they were more dangerous than a car with a fixed roof. I compromised, and bought a 1500S Ghia, the forerunner of the Porsche 914. The Ghia was quite a bit faster than the kind of sports car I'd have bought, cornered a LOT harder, and to this day the cars are still so rare that most people wouldn't know one if it ran them over.
I decided to compromise to keep my mom happy, we were both happy with my choice. A little over a year later I traded the Ghia (big mistake, but I didn't realize then that the car would be considered a collectable one day) for an MGA, with mom's blessing.
This is a decision you have to make for yourself, but sometimes when you are living with your parents you have to make a few compromises.

It's not. He said he will get a SI if he can't buy the S.
well maybe the s2000 just looks too fast for mom... but seriouly though... thats the same kinda bs excuse my parents gave me when i wanted a sports car... i cant believe someone suggested the Si... if the s2000 is torqueless, the Si is even more torqueless, so much more that its not even funn
I say get what you really want. Who are we really to tell you what to do. In the end, if you don't get what you want, you'll probably just regret it. Regardless if some feel you are too young to have one, not enough experience, and etc..., just get what you feel. You might actually be one of those youngins that is very responsible and understand the responsibility of owning an S. Or just another wrecked S to raise our insurance.
If your parents are still your legal guardians, then they should sort this out (are they divorced?). Your current and past behavior should determine if you get the car. If you are a responsible person, then probably no problem. If you are not a responsible person, you could potentially get into legal issues with the car that could result in your parents loosing their insurance coverage, or possibly most of what they own.
My mom doesn't want me to have a manual. I was using the Si as a factor for getting an s2k. From what I've been told the insurance rates are almost identical to the s2k. My dad can teach me how to drive manual, its just my mom doesn't like me driving around period.
Oh yeah my parents are asian...
