I know a guy in NorCal who parts these, his price is $650 for both air bags, the SRS unit, and both seat belts. Dont know if thats high or not. And jsenclosures parts these in upstate New York. Since i dont know where the OP is from, i figured id cover the coasts. Both guys do Paypal and ship.

Yeah, my guess is going to be in the $5k ballpark. Why were you issued 3 tickets?
I was thinking more 6-7k.

1. Careless Driving
2. Leaving scene of accident. (It was near the bottom of a hill on a rainy night and I didn't want to get hit by another car. So I moved to an adjacent parking lot)
3. Failure to report accident. (They came within 5 minutes of the incident. And didn't have my phone with me.)
You can get the 3 tickets tossed. If you were accurate in the details, it would be easy to contest them as long as its done properly. You can get an attorney or bone up if you think you can, and represent yourself. Don't worry about what cops do, that comes out in the wash. He was probably filling his quota or making himself feel good.

How would you get the Careless Driving charge thrown out?

First step is to look up the offense and how it is defined. Using that criteria, craft a defense accordingly using all the facts: any statements made, hard evidence police have etc. W/O knowing those I would shoot for the "still driving well under speed limit despite inclement conditions, lack of VSA, known, documented S stability problems, bad weather, glare, pothole, etc".

You want to show you were NOT under the influence and despite your best efforts at being cautious, (not speeding-driving like an old man-if you have had a clean record up to that point you can use that to bolster your case) external events beyond your control conspired to cause the car to loose control.
[/quote]

Also the cop didn't witness the accident so he can't testify in court about what happened to cause the accident. Unless he has statements from witnesses or a forensic accident report, he can't prove anything about how the OP was driving before the accident. It will be up to the OP to present his case well, but this seems winnable.

disclaimer I'm not a lawyer, as mentioned above look up the offense and see how it is defined in your state.

less than 2k to fix it. I have driver side airbag and module if you need them and most of the front end parts... my passanger side airbag is blue if you decide to use it

i would fix it and keep it. its still a clean title car so value wont be affected if fixed right.

sorry to see that,

I'd definitely rather fix it than part it out. It just comes down to whether or not it's worth it. Guess my best bet is to wait on the body shop's estimate.
Thanks for advice, I'll keep your parts in mind if it comes to it.
How much of the work can you do yourself? Hopefully they itemize the estimate so you can see what you are paying for each item. Also, if they need to buy parts, see how much they say the parts cost, my guess is you can get them for a lot less. And if you can find silverstone parts that will save on paint, unless you really need all your body panel vins to match. Id say you should be able to do everything except the rear quarter since depending on damage that will need to be either pounded out or reskinned. A body shop in CA quoted $2500 for a reskin and respray of mine, but that included $500 in parts, and you can get a used one for half that.

Now, as far as damage goes, use this forum to find parts and you will be at a much lower cost. The main determining factor is how much of the fix you can do yourself, and if you cant do the paint, how many of the body panels you can get that match. Start pricing the parts, i just fixed a "totaled" 03 for $2500, it needed a new drivers side door, drivers side fender, all new glass, new passengers side tail light and weld and reskin to passengers side fender. I will say this though, that cost is $1500-2500 less than it would have been if id used a body shop to do the repair. Heck, if youre in Cali, ill trade you my fixed S for yours plus some cash on your end Mines a bone stock 03 with 60k miles.
Thanks for the offer, even though I'm in NJ I'll keep it in mind, depending on the outcome of the estimate.
I just came back from the bodyshop and I was told there is extensive frame damage...
I asked the owner how much it would cost to fix just the frame and he couldn't give me a actual estimate without 'peeling away' the damaged parts.
Hopefully by the end of the week I'll know how much it'll cost to fix everything there or just fix what I can't.
I'm hoping the suspension is ok but can't tell yet..

Took some more pics today...it's worse than I remembered...

How fast did you hit the wall?
From the sound of it, our collisions are similar except mine is worse, especially since the rear is damaged as well.
I probably hit the wall anywhere from 20-30 mph.
Do you know if I'm 'required' to replace my airbags?
I was thinking if it came down to it, I would just replace my steering wheel without an airbag as well as the passenger side dash. Is that illegal??

I didn't consider this as an option. Thanks for suggesting it, I'll see if there's anything around me in NJ.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I do intend to dispute all 3 tickets...just not sure whether I should go with an attorney.

Lack of sentence structure, lack of punctuation, lack of capitalization, etc.

Who should be going back to school again? No need to knock on the kid unnecessarily.

Traffic court is different than a criminal court.

As long as you present yourself in polite way and be honest, I don't see any harm going to the traffic court contesting those 3 tickets.
