My Brother doesn't like the S2K
An AP1 to a new driver is not what I would recommend at all! 06+ for traction control and no bump steer. I have driven ap1s and as great as they are, you gotta be pretty precise. If your npt patient while learning to drive it is gonna hurt you.
my apologies if this was already said (didnt read all posts) but man, after 9 cars since i was 15 the s2000 is hands down the best bang for the buck... My question is what does he like? I went through Lexus, WRX, Spec V sentra, Mazdaspeed, Acura CL-S and finally an S2k... Nothing is better and the safety argument is bunk, the car is amazingly safe especially in comparison to its relative size.
I usually dont like to go against s2ki general opinion but guys.... your scaring the kid into not buying a great car... If your a raging dumbass behind the wheel your going to die in whatever you drive! Saying "it WILL kill you" is a bit over the top, no one has to drive their S2k like a race car besides on a track, it is still a fun car to drive without the peddle to the metal or the tires squealing around corners.
I am 18 going on 19, and as i said i've grown up with cars and i've been driving since i was 13, (i've grown up in greece) i've learned how to drive in a bmw m6, 2008 model and a turbo s cayeene and my dad says i'm an amazing driver and i'm not stupid to street race nor drift on the roads i'm a very responsible driver and i'm probably a better driver then any1 i know apart from my brother and father. (i've been driving with clutch since my first drive with a mazda rx-8). sorry for a LOOOONG response i haven't been home for the past 2 days. also i do have the money for the s2000 and to pay for the insurance myself and a big THAANKS to everyone who replied to this.
"just know your limits beforehand"? Excuse me? He's 16, he doesn't know his limits! He has no experience!
"a dumb teenager is know different than a dumb 30 year old"? Acutally, there is a huge difference. It's called "experience".
But, alas....you yourself are 18, that's why you make these statements.
Anyway...my feeling is that if you are the stereotypical 16 year old male, this is not a good 1st car to buy. To easy to wreck it with an emergency maneuver.
It's safer if you are going to be a non-stereotypical 16 year old male driver, but still, in an emergency maneuver, you are much more likely to wreck this car than most others.
