My experience behind the wheel of an S2K
There's no such thing as the perfect car anyhow. There are things about the S that I would like to change, but for now this car fits my criteria better than anything else at this price point.
I'm not really sure what the purpose of your post was, perhaps other than to vent your dissatisfaction with certains aspects of the S, but surely if these issues are a deal-breaker, then you may well be better served to look at something else.

nor do I really understand the need for another audio gauge cluster when the reciever is only a stones throw away.
The pitch of the engine is something you either love or hate. To me it sounds like a ferrari's younger brother
The bottom line is, the S2000 is a Honda, and the RSX is an Acura.
If you want a more luxurious-sporty experience go with the Acura. If you want nicely laid out and an attractive cluster of buttons and knobs, go with the Acura. If you want a sexier interior that is overflowing with class, go with the Acura. If you want an Acura key chain to flaunt around with your friends, go with the Acura. If you want a pure blooded sports car that was engineered from the ground up to excel at the track, with as little distractions as possible, and give you that same experience when you're on local roads, go with the Honda.
Oh yeah, and if you want to lower your top when you pull up to a hot girl at a red light..... go with the Honda.
Regarding exhaust tone, the car can have a bit of a high tone to it with the stock intake/exhaust. However, with a good intake and exhaust, the car sounds totally different. I have a CAI (no-name ebay) and a Apex'i single exhaust on my car, and it's very deep sounding at low RPMs.
Some video of how it sounds:
Slow driveby
Fast driveby
Revving (ignore the water, just washed the car)
There are plenty of deep sounding exhausts for this car, and replacing the intake helps a little (gives the car a nice growl if you accelerate hard from low RPMs). Then again, it does rev to 8000/9000rpm so it's pretty much a given that it's going to be high pitched in that range.
As far as the interior, the S2k is not a luxury car by any stretch, so I don't mind the controls. I really like the fact that everything is at your fingertips, especially radio volume and fan speed. I must admit I rarely use the radio dash controls except volume, but IMO it's better to have too many controls than not enough (within reason).
