my hole in the top thread

This is one I started quite a while ago. I've had no luck with any of the dealers in town and even tried to send Woodwork a message but he didn't reply. I've since given up and figure that I'll just retrofit it with a 02 top myself. HOWEVER, if you're still under FACTORY warranty go to your local dealer and demand that it be fixed. My problem apparently was that I was past my factory warranty and the extended warranty doesn't cover "wear and tear"

I'm just wondering, if I buy a 2004 S2K, will my top wear a hole in it?

I'll be putting the top up and down many times during the day, parking it, putting the top up, then putting it back down when I pull away.

Sometimes, I'll be arbitrarily putting the top either up or down just for fun and variety. Should I be concerned about a hole wearing in the top? I don't want a roof with a hole in it.

So they didn't change a known issue for the MY03 roofs? What is up with Honda having shitty service?

Seriously - does anyone know if they fixed this in any way on the 03s?

David, you'll enjoy this site:

There is no truth to the rumor that Honda is using "Duck Tape" brand duct tape to repair the #4 cylinder scoring problem.

Hi, It's been a while here's my update
I took my car to the dealership today, the service manager had said he'd need to take pictures of it. He told me he'll order the top for me and a Honda rep might be calling me.

It will be replaced for free

My friend is bringing in a digi cam today, so I'll be taking pictures of the top. I don't have any way of hosting these pictures, so if someone does please PM me and I'll e-mail them to you (so everyone else can see)

Thanks,
Ed

That is certainly good news. I am glad things worked out fine with your dealer.

As for the question "why Honda didn't change a known issue", I think it is more of an individual car issue than a real design flaw. Very few S2000s have this wear issue with their tops. I think it has to do with the way to top folds down, and each top folds differently. But once a top has established its own fold pattern, then the top will always fold that way. The fold pattern may be the cause of the wear spot (or not) -- and the majority of the tops do not have wear spots.

Congrats on the new top! It is definately because of how the top folds. My holes were not that bad this winter because I rarely put the top down. Now that summer is here, every night my top is down and the slit has gotten bigger.
