No problems on my '02 and it's a daily driver. When I wash the car I always open the trunk lid and dry around the seals. Also, my car is garaged. Maybe doing those two things keeps the rust from forming.

Who here has the rust and garages the car? Seems like that would be a significant factor to this problem occruing. Although it seems more common on the '04 models. Maybe Honda is missing that area when they primer the car. Seems odd because I thought all parts go through a primer bath.

My S is always garaged and yet it still has the rust. WTF. I hate it when the server mgr said, " it is not uncommon to see rust at that spot....." I can't believe he said that.

Mine is parked in a heated garage... not sure if that'd be an issue.

Mine is always garaged at home and work and I have rust...

Mine looks more like rust stains than rust forming. I figured it was from drilling the holes for the rear spoiler... the shavings could have sat in the rain channels and when water enters and they sit together...

Looks like it wasn't painted right and water started to do its thing.

I have a black 04 and I have the rust too. What does this mean? Does this mean if I don't do something about this, the rust will spread to the entire trunk lid? Is there a possibility that this rust won't spread but will remain miniscule?

The earlier models like the 01s and 02s that have rust stains do not seem to have signs that the rust is spreading.

Is it possible that this is not really a major problem? Or does rust always behave like a cancer that spreads relentlessly?
