A plastics supply store here in Baltimore called Total Plastics. They supply the plastic we use for our windscreens and had assorted leftover cut-off clear and tinted pieces.

hmm. I thought that the detector did have rear laser? Is it just the model that you have or am I just completely mistaken?

There is a large sensor in the front and none in the rear. I have a model that is less than a year old. I'll have to check the specs, but I don't see any way it can read laser from behind.

BTW, While I was doing all this, I discovered that my Alpine alarm system (which never worked right) had a faulty ground connection.

I'll have to check the model # tomorrow.

Now that it's working, I'm very happy because all the stupid false alarms have stopped. The idiots who installed it grounded it to a bracket near the battery that was not a proper ground. I tried to use the same ground for another purpose and put a ohmeter on it to test the ground and lo and behold, it was providing major resistance.

The system has proximity and shock sensors. It starts sending warning blips if someone gets too close to the car for more than a few seconds, then goes off if they don't back away. It also sends off an immediate alarm if someone sticks a hand into the interior space when the top is down.

So it provides some peace of mind when the car is parked with the top down. It's been on my car almost since the day I got it and has been virtually useless until now. I took it back to the installer for adjustments/repairs, but they never got it right, and until I found the ground problem (by accident), I had given up.

Now I'm very happy.

The rearward facing laser sensor is located to the right of the bogey counter and to the left of the laser/Ka/K/X band LEDs. It's the little round thingey you can spot if you look carefully. HTH.

BTW here is a very recent radar detector comparo...

Rick, up until now I've just been a lurker (my Pop just north of you in New Freedom, PA has the Spa Yellow I get to drive, uh, almost never--he works over where the old Caldor used to be!) but your creativity and workmanship has finally been the impetus for me to post. Absolutley outstanding. ...and I thought installing my Momo Shift Knob this weekend was involved!

I only wish the yo-yos on the Mazda MP3 site (my baby) had half the brains the fellas over here have. Keep it up, Rick, and maybe I'll catcha at the Panera Bread in my Dad's S on the next blue moon.

So I guess I won't have any rear laser detection. But maybe I shouldn't worry, since laser doesn't seem to be used much around these parts anyway (not a single bogey since I've had the V1). Right?.....(someone please reassure me).

Thanks for the nice thoughts about this board, Appler.

So when does this item go on sale, Rick? Also, would you expect any problems in mounting a Passport 7500 or 8500? As always, your threads make for very interesting reading.
