Uh, I got blasted by a State Boy with a laser gun on 83 right at the Timonium Rd. off ramp. Had it set up on a tripod in the median and was plucking us off just as we crested the hill (probably knows no one worth his salt can resist mashing it once you finally get off the parking lot called 695). I don't see being laser blind from the back as much of a problem, though. If you pass a trap and they get you from behind, you deserve it anyway. Most mobile units that could be tracking you from behind are still using Ka. Don't lose any sleep.

You've got to be kidding! I go by that spot nearly every day, but usually in my Civic, but nonetheless clocking some extra MPH. It's a clever spot for a trap because there are a couple of security alarms in nearby buildings that set off the V1 (and I'm sure other detectors) all the time. So it's easy to get into the habit of ignoring the V1 warnings thinking they're just a false alarm.

I have a solution for the laser...

Go buy a Escort Shifter Z3 or a Bel LaserPro. Both 'shift' or 'jam' laser. Thereby eliminating the need for laser detection from the V1...

For non Laser Radar detectors do you think you can shoot right through the plastic in the front and the rear ???

Keith: Beltronics (I believe) was the company first co-founded by Dr. Valentine, the gentleman who now makes the V1. There is no such thing as a LIDAR "shifter"...the best you can do is flood the LIDAR with a ton of IR and prevent it from seeing it's own IR, but this takes a LOT of IR (read, another set of HIDs )


Rick: Very nice, as usual, but some suggestions. Get rid of the window and move the front-facing IR LED somewhere along one of the A-pillars...nothing more than running 2 wires. While you're at it, might as well do the same thing to the rear-facing one into a rollhoop. See my alarm install thread in the NE forum for MY adventures with my new Clifford system...due to an ungrounded input, it seemed like it went off everytime I sprayed water at the front of the car I hope to start my hack soon...

Yes, he wrote me up and the cat in the pick-up infront of me. The real Godsmack of it all was that I was coming home from the city picking-up tickets for a friend. As they say, "No good deed goes unpunished." It's OK, I plan to drink $135 worth of his beer and there seems to be no organized point reciprocity between MD and PA.

 

Rick...I am currently working on recreating this stealth install myself. Did you use a remote display in the rearview mirror as I have seen in other installs? If not, what did you use?

The rearward facing laser sensor is located to the right of the bogey counter and to the left of the laser/Ka/K/X band LEDs.
