New S2000 worth it?

Also, I think the S2K has a timelessness to the design. In 10 years the new Solstice and Sky will look funky and dated...but the S2K is still going to be sexy as hell...
IMHO
IMHO

Part of the reason is because Honda (at least I hope so) isn't gonna replace the current S2000 with a Gen2 S2000. There isn't anything else to compare to.
Had BMW not designed the Z4 to replace the Z3, and made something completely new -- i.e. Call is G3 or whatever -- one probably won't notice that the Z3 looks a little old ...
I dunno ... I'm babbling, it's late, and I'm tired ... whatever ...
i'll have to say no the s2000 is not worth $35000...particularly the fact that it is aging. that being said the car is great at what it set out to do years ago and still hangs in there with the newer vehicles.
the s2000 really is a niche car and i always laugh when i see people cross-shopping this thing...you either want a high-strung racy roadster or you want something completely different. there is no other car like it out there.
a long test drive is critical when it comes to this car. do you have a huge smile on your face on the test drive? will you miss the torque that you feel in virtually every other sports car you've ever driven? can you live with it in whatever capacity you're going to use it for?
i found that the s2000 is a great car but simply not for me...it's too edgy and not DD friendly enough...and yes sports cars were meant to have some get up and go from before 6k.
but if you're a 2 wheeler guy there's nothing better to suit you than this car.

i wouldn't buy new when u can save a TON of money used. the low prices make u undervalue what the car is worth to drive. at less than 20k, it is a steal.
in terms of the newnest of the design, i don t think the s2k is like any other car. it is magic like the nsx and is simply a classic not subject to time. im not the biggest fan of the look of the car, but all i see when im driving it is the tach. no other car besides the f430 came close to the feel of it.
my opinion.

con: convertible top takes 20 seconds or so to open and close making you look like an idiot or if you're impatient like me, you'll go nutz.
Now before anyone mentions that Top Gear video, notice I said the fastest "fully" automatic.
Just get the car that suits your needs. There's no point trying to compare the two cars. My experience from selling the S2000's has been that people who buy Z4's are totally different buyers. They look at the S2000's since it's on their "list" and Consumer Reports Ranks it the Highest.
But if these common responses don't tell you anything about the "typical" Z4 vs. S2000 shopper, than I don't know what else to tell you:
"It only comes in a STICK?"
"My Golf Clubs won't fit in there!"
"You have to MANUALLY latch the Top?"
"It's too Fast"
Seldom do you turn one of those into an S2000 owner. Those people don't get "it." The S2000 is probably one of the purest driving experiences you'll ever have for $30K~ish. There's no variable steering, active suspension, "sport modes," active handling or any electronic gizmos to help a grand tourer pretend it's a sports car. The S2000 is a very focused vehicle - proof being that it only comes one way from the factory with no options.
I'm just speaking from my experience of interacting with people who've shopped both cars, and telling me why they went with the Z4 over the S, and Vice Versa. I've driven plenty of Z4's since people trade them in on Civics and Accords fairly often (what does that tell you?), and I can say that the Z4 is not for me.

I had many choices for a $30k price range. I ended up getting an 07 s2000 in Grand Prix white w/ red/black interior. Not regretting a single second of it. I've always wanted the s2k ever since it came out. It doesn't bother me at all that it's a 7 year old styled car. Great car! =)
I'm seriously considering dumping the TSX for an 08 stook.
1. I believe 08 might be the last production year...they could drag it out to 09 I s'pose, but 1999-2008 would be an even 10 years. (Maybe that's significant, maybe it's meaningless, who knows.)
2. I don't believe there will be a direct replacement for this car. 2009 or 2010 should see the release of a new sports car from Honda/Acura, but that car is clearly not a replacement for the S2k.

How does the Z4 top look when down? This is one feature where the S2000 just doesn't measure up to the competition: Solstice/Sky top resides under a hard cover (even if it is a pain and fills the trunk); MR2 top folds back on itself so that it looks finished when down; Miata (OK, MX5 now) does the same; I think the Z350 top hides under a hard cover. The S2000 is the only car in this class that doesn't look finished when the top is down without that PITA cover that very few owners use.
