Supposedly Honda motor oil is just repackaged Mobil non-synthetic oil, so just use Mobil 10W-30 dino oil. The manual recommends checking your oil every time you get gas. You "should" leave the factory oil in for at least 5000 miles unless you meet the conditions for severe service. The factory oil has extra molybdeum to aid break-in. See your manual for what severe service means. If severe service, then change your oil as close to after 3750 miles as you can.

My S2000 used zero oil during the the first 4000 miles. I added 1/3 quart between 4000 and 8000 miles, and have yet to add any since 8000 miles. I plan on changing to Mobil 1 synthetic on my next oil change. Based on my research, it would be wise to use a Mobil 1 filter (MI-104, the $9.99 one, some guys say the the MI-105 filter fits and has more capacity). Assuming that all the oil is drained (car needs to be level when drainiing) the oil capacity is 5.6 qts with the filter.

By the way, once you've broken in the car, don't VTEC until you have three bars on your temp guage. If you don't wait, you might be surprised when the engine pops and drops RPMs at 6000.

Hey guys,

I have a related question about the break-in oil.

I bought my S2k almost 7 months ago, but it only has 3,300 miles on the odometer. (I work out-of-town during the week.) The miles are a mix of "spirited" city driving and highway miles.

Should I change the break-in oil at 3,750 miles (which I won't hit for another month or two), later, ASAP, or what?

Thanks!

Jason

What they are describing is breaking in the engine! In addition to what others have said - no severe engine loading - even at low revs. Also, be gentle on the brakes and transmission (especially when cold).

I read that I was suppose to check the oil level time to time, so what am I suppose to do if I see the level going down? Where should I get this "special" oil that Honda is putting for the first 7500 miles??
Check the oil at every gas fill up. If low, just use regular dino oil - even though the factory oil does have additives to help with breakin.
