The two things that you shouldn't get from the dealer:
Tires
Windshield

I paid $250 CAD.

I'm getting mine done this Saturday. Same problem as yours. $260 for aftermarket glass, $360 for PPG OEM glass (PPG is one of 3 OEM manufacturers that Honda uses).

Jonas, as I mentioned in another thread, I think you've been misinformed. The orignal manufacture is ASAHI in Japan. It is stamped Honda on the windshield along with the manufacturer's name. Anything else is a replacement but it is not OEM. Back in Sept '01 I replaced mine with an OEM by ASAHI at a cost of $685. At the time PPG and a couple others had S2000 windshields available at a much lower cost. I suspect the same is true today. I have no idea how well these other replacements work; ok as far as I know. Before I made my decision I spoke with three different auto replacement specialist and each one said the least risk and safest bet was to go with OEM. Since it was an insurance item, I did. BTW, I did not use the dealer.

In my research, I came across a lot of your posts.

Maybe the info I saw was incorrect, but there were a couple posts where someone clained that their original windshield was PPG from the factory, which is where the claim that Honda uses 3 OEM manufacturers comes from. I dunno, I just work here.

In the last 3 months, I have had to replace two (that's 2!!) windshields due to serious rock damage! Paid 240 bucks for the first one, had to replace the second one 6 days later! They took off 20 bucks the second one (felt sorry for me I guess!) and then last week I got a small spider web chip. They fixed the chip for free since I'm a repeat customer. The owner told me he was going set me up with some sort of a punch card system like Subway, so after I replace 4 windshields, the 5th one is free!! Hope I don't have to use that card!!

I picked up this useful little piece of information from an old issue of R&T a few years ago, regarding windshields: seems that windshields contain a minute amount of a special gas, which attracts rocks or other roadside debris, causing the windshield to chip or crack. After this first chip, the gas is released, and stones will NEVER AGAIN be attracted to your (now damaged) windshield.
