Not 100% satisfied with the s2000
drive the S on the ragged edge of adhesion with the engine singing. you will realize that the S is beautifully balanced with even its stock power and suspension tuning. Its not a 0-60 car. its a handling car- say that with me- handling. This isn't something you can discover on the streets of your neighbourhood. you need a track or slalom course to safely push it. You can feel its perfect balance on great roads.
If you decide it needs more power, be prepared to upgrade tires/suspension/brakes to keep things as balanced as possible. ready to spend $10K? How about this- spend your money on a motorcycle. There is NO car you could buy to match the sheer speed and thrills a bike will provide.
good luck.

I drove my car stock for a few years and enjoyed it immensely. A couple years ago I got a civic as my daily driver and decided to start modifying the s2000 (since I could stand to take it off of the road for stretches). I can honestly say that everything I've done to the car has made it that much more enjoyable for me without any draw-backs. It still drives like it used to and is just more sharp and powerful.
If you start to get bored of it, start doing some research on making it your own!

worth it?
Got a deal on one offered the other day..
Agree with most of the people on this thread - you need to switch it up, but also you need to get out to a track.
I was 16 when the first F&F came out and wanted one since then, and got into mine about 3 years ago. The car is incredibly well balanced and fun especially on the ragged edge. The problem is, it's not the greatest to drive in traffic and really needs to stretch its legs to be fun, aside from the convertible part (which is what my wife likes). So I have a Mazda 3 as a daily which is good on gas considering I commute 40 miles each way every day, and fun enough for a DD. And it makes getting back in the S that much better
I started with some auto-X, and moved to HPDEs. There is no comparison to how good this car is compared to other performance cars. Others might be faster, but the S is eager with great balance, great steering, great shifter, and just the right amount of power. On a racetrack it's a blast. I've been in other faster cars but nothing in the price range provides the same level of driving refinement.
The only mod I've done aside from safety equipment is a K&N FIPK - and that's just for the noise. I might do the UK exhaust mod as well, again just for the noise. Throw some good rubber, brake pads, and fluid on and this car will take on just about anything like a champ.

I think its a matter of perspective, you'll never be satisfied if all you're looking for is things wrong with the car. Focus more on what you enjoy about it, and the satisfaction level rises. If you're still not happy, maybe your expectations of it were too high in the first place.
I first got my 01 S2K to help take the load off my DD and get back into a sporty car. But the drive to work sucks so bad it's barely worth it in bumper to bumper traffic and then get stone chips on top of that. DD is a 2006 Element EX with 156k. The E has a good stock sound system and is cake to drive in the heavy traffic or bad weather. Just replaced an oil switch, alternator and put in a new battery on that. Point is when I'm back in the S2K it's much more appreciated when not diving it everyday. Got 21k on that car and want to keep the mileage low. It's garaged for the winter until April. Can't wait to take it out with the top down.
You desire more low-end grunt and maintain the handling. Keep the convertible and great normal aspirated exhaust note. Audi R8 Spyder is your drug of choice.
