Not 100% satisfied with the s2000

If a car is your only car it needs to to many more things the S2000 is neither designed nor capable of doing. There are many, good performance 4-door sedans that are much better for these tasks. For me the S2000 is a secondary car. Much more fun to drive than any other I've had in years, completely impractical for many uses. Family grocery shopping? Heck, the dog food uses up the entire trunk!
I read a story recently that one of the underlying design criteria in the original S2000 was the high rev engine deliberately only producing decent power above 4000 rpm coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission to force us to drive the car, shift gears constantly, not just sit in it. This is probably pure fiction albeit true especially with the AP1s lack of low rpm torque. Daily rush hour driving in the city can involve literally rowing to work with a manual transmission and the S2000 is our only "stick shift" car these days for that reason. The Miata is available with a automatic transmission, though...

I went through the same thing. Got rid on my s2k for a luxury car. Was nice until I needed a sports car. Then I needed a truck, etc. I've been through quite a bit of cars since I've gotten rid of my s2k. Now I have a '13 Tundra(fishing, hauling, tow), 1997 Corolla(DD), a 2008 Corvette(power), and 2005 Sienna(wife's and family hauler). Still missing in the handling department. Perhaps another s2k in the near future? We'll see.

First mod for an S2000 is to tighten the loose nut behind the wheel
Not 100% sure about that. I was ready to do it on my 08 ap2 (having read the reviews) but when we had a good look with my mech at the rear axle nut it was bend from the factory in a way showing that Honda seems to want you to leave it alone.
If it ain't broken, don't fix it. That's my moto for this fix..

A track day changed everything for me. I thought the S was a piece of shit having to hit vtec to have fun in the street. When I tracked it, my mind was blown. The S in it's stock form is gold. I don't even want more power out of this car.

Haven't has my S2000 on the track, but I'm sure it was the same as with my old 911.
I realized that I wasn't getting close to the potential and capability of the car due to lack of skills/experience and an unsuitable environment.
If you're into driving and not bling, you'll see no reason to mod until you "catch up" to the cars' potential.
