Just got back from the dealership a lil bit ago. My car has been there since last night since I left it sit there so the service manager could take a look at it. I called around 4pm this evening after not hearing anything from the dealership. I talked to a service guy and he said he would get with the service manager and they would take a look at it. (Shouldnt they have already done that since its been there all day?) I get a call back 30 min later and its the service manager. He explains to me that the hole is from "wear". Indicating the latch caused the wear hole in my top. I explained to him that the rip was not there when I dropped the car off and I dont see how the latch could be responsible for the damage especially since the latch was just replaced and I know for certain there was no indication of wear from the faulty latch that has been on the car from day one. He explains to me that I might want to take the car up north and have an upholstery shop fix it for me. He said the other option is to get the honda rep out to look at it. I said ok and how long will that take. He told me the rep visits once a month. At this point im loosing my patience. I said ok, I will be there this evening to discuss this farther. He obliged. So I arrive at the dealership and ask for the sales manager directly. I introduce myself and shake his hand and ask him if he could walk outside to look over the car with me. I further explain how the rip was NOT there upon dropping my vehicle off to have the latch replaced. I ask him dont you think if the hole had been there that after the countless washes and detailing days ive had with the car I would notice the hole and the water that would collect inside the cabin. He agreeed. I told him I dont appreciate being called a liar. He stopped me right there and made it a point to say that he has not been nasty to me thus far and that he is not calling me a liar and neither is anyone else at the dealership. He reiterated the fact that maybe from the new latch having more pressure caused the rip since the top had previous wear around the rip. I just really couldnt take anymore of this. I told him there was no wear, no hole, no rip etc before bringing my vehicle here and now I have one and im not happy about it. I do all my own maintanance and If I had known this was gonna happen, I would have replaced the part myself and known that nothing else was going to be damaged in the process. He said hes here to make customers happy not to upset them and told me he has personally seen this problem on 3 other s2k's just from normal wear. I walked him around the top and showed him no other imperfections and explained this top is in excellent shape. I showed him the passenger side latch area inside and outside of the top and what do you know, no wear marks, holes etc. I said so whats gonna happen, you guys gonna stitch it up and tell me to go have a nice day? He said no sir, I will call the honda rep tomm and request about getting the top replaced and will know something mid day. He seemed to be sincere and not doubting my intelligence so I said ok, thinking to myself that maybe now we are getting somewhere. I told him I was sorry for loosing it a bit but I was extremely flustered from the whole situation. He said he will do what he can to authroize a top replacement. So I said no more other than thank you, grabbed my keys and drove home somewhat satisified but if I dont get a new top all hell is gonna break loose. Just all out pissed me off when they tell me the hole was not caused by there tech but rather from typical wear. The hole was not there when I dropped the car off so imo its there responsiblity to fix it.

Got any pics? It should be obvious whether it was from wear or if they tore it. Besides, I can't picture where on the top you're talking about.

You WILL get your top replaced with a new one. Don't apologize either, it's not your fault the mechanic put a hole in it.

Lastly, it's the job of the mechanic (reputable dealer) to report any issues (like this) before he works on the car to clarify with you that it was there and it's not his fault.

Clearly they didn't do this meaning that the mechanic did it after the fact.

Enjoy the new top, because I wouldn't except anything else but a new one.

IMO that is 100% a screwdriver mark. Good luck on your top replacement. Maybe you should post up in the "tell Honda" section.

Ill see what happens after tomm phone call from the dealership, if they even call me. A wear hole or tear would be just that, ripped or torn fabric from stress, that is far from a a tear.

This story is freaking me out a bit. My top has a slit in it from where it has been rubbing against the top mechanics. I am taking it in tomorrow to fight for a replacement. I hope you get a new top!
