Hi All. I got my silver and black in yesterday and I am loving it. I am now even more excited about getting it above the 600 miles so I can VTEC for the first time.

I picked up a ESCORT SOLO last night as for some reason, my current radar detector will not work in the Honda power outlet. Has anyone run into this?

The SOLO is battery powered so there is no cord. Does anyone else have this and know the reliability? I am wondering about the range of it!

I know the Valentine 1 is the best on the market but I don't really want to pay 400 bucks for a radar detector. I could return the SOLO and purchase the Escort 8500 but I wonder if I would have the same problem? When I plug my original radar into the Honda power socket, the Laser detection just keeps going off constantly. It doesn't do this when I try it any of my other cars.

Also I am going to put some Alpine 6 1/2 speakers with tweeters in my car tomorrow as the speakers that came with it are horrible. Does the stock stereo seem pretty decent with better speakers to you guys? I have read the FAQ but I like to get other people opinions!

Thanks in advance!

I have the 8500, and it works great in my car, too.

Did you check the owner's manual for your old detector to see what the constant laser alarm means (besides LADAR)? It might be a troubleshooting signal of some sort. Are you sure that you had the plug inserted all the way? On mine, it is a very tight connection.

I only have a escort 7500, but it works fine in the power plug. Even better is hardwiring it into your fusebox, so your cord doesn't go from the dash to the outlet. That drove me nuts for 5,000 miles till I wired mine in.

The Solo loses a little bit of sensitivity due to being battery operated. Its constantly cycling off and on, so its detection range is a little shorter than a 8500.

IMHO the best products in this area are manufactured by Cincinatti Microwave..(i.e. Passport). I've have a Passport 1700 in my Jeep for many years with no tickets (although I admit the law looks at the Jeep differently). For the S2K I installed Cincinatti's best, the SR-1. While the V-1 is a good unit it is just too large! The 8500 is outstanding too. You can hard wire a phone jack to either the blue and white hot of the "coutesy light" or the accesory spade on the fuseblock.
