Thank you the both of you for your input. Even without directly giving me advice knowing that I might always have doubts and it’s not just me is a comfort. I decided to stick with my AP2. When I imagined having both sets of keys on the table if I was headed out the door into the country roads near by house I’d grab the keys for the AP1 ever single time. However when I think about taking a nice cruise through the city to our favorite restaurant or this summer when we plan to drive the entire 101 highway in Oregon... in those situations I’d always take the AP2. So if I have to choose just one I think (gah!) I’d rather have my AP2. I haven’t closed the door on owning both in the future but for now this is where I’m at. Thanks again for your help. Having driven both now I’ll truly never understand the argument of which is better, both are utterly fantastic just different. If nothing else I feel pretty lucky now knowing that with confidence.

Last September I purchased a 2007 BB S2K. It was always my dream to own one and then I finally did. I had originally always wanted an AP1 and that was the car I remembered back when it came out and it’s legendary 9K motor. Test drove at a dealer an AP2 (mostly) and an AP1 for a very short amount of time (7 mins was allowed to me as it was a 2003 with 6300 original miles on it). At the time based on 7 mins in the AP1 and next to no place to run her out I felt like I wouldn’t miss the 9K and that the AP2 felt faster (my wife thought so too and liked it a lot more, bare it mind it wasn’t her dream car but I wanted to take her feelings into account as it would be own shared car). I’ve always wondered though if I made the right call.

Fast forward to yesterday when I saw near my place a 2002 BB S2K for sale. 80K miles, all stock, 2 owners, clean car fax and recent Honda inspection all clear. I can’t justify or afford 2 S2000s but I went to drive it today anyways and the seller was super chill about it. Coming back from driving his AP1 and driving my AP2 home I’m left very conflicted still. I honestly don’t know which car I’d rather own.

I always like keeping my cars as stock as possibly, usually an intake and better tires only. With the AP2 I felt like I was already trying to find a way to get that 9K or something close to it without destroying my car. I feel like with the AP1 I’d put any intake in it and call it a day. It sucks becasue if I didn’t already have my AP2 I’d have bought the car I drove today without a second hesitation but now it’s not clear. They are both so good. I feel like despite what people say my car feels faster and therefor slightly more exciting to drive. I really enjoyed the scream of the 9K and coming out of corners it was awesome reving it out longer before running into the limiter. The torque is definitely noticeable but for normal-ish city driving there isn’t much difference. Both gear boxes feel direct and great smooth no grinds. I’m so torn what to do now. Sell my AP2 and buy the AP1? Just keep my car. Both are awesome. A part of me feels like if i wasn’t absolutely sold on the AP1 I shouldn’t make the change. Another part of me wants that car I always dreamed of as a kid with the crazy 9K, it is wrong to want to own a part of history even when your not sure it’s better than what you have. I have a few days to decide and trying to type out my thoughts. I keep going in circles. I think I’m crazy. Not sure where this post belongs so feel free to move it if you want or need to.

Help! Thanks.
AP2 is definitely faster, especially around town. If you don't do any performance driving keep your car.

If you have plans to track it, I prefer the AP1 as I find it more fun to drive.

2007 Berlina Black with 33k miles.
Haven't seen the car yet so not sure about the VINs but has had 3 previous owners and no accidents on Autocheck.
based on pics, there's some wear on the driver bolsters, but will need to check that in person.

The price is $27k. is this worth it considering it's from a dealer?

Seems too high. Maybe with a hardtop.

I'm on the west coast as well. At $27K I would expect the car to be truly pristine (while not that big of a deal, I would expect there to be no bolster wear). I would also expect lower mileage at that price for a 2007. Buying from a dealer can definitely drive the price up and unless you know otherwise, there is no guarantee that the dealer knows S2000s all that well.

But, I'm not in LA specifically so I have no idea how reasonable it would be in your local market to expect to find a nicer car for the same money, or a similar car for less money. If you are specifically targeting a BB S2K then that might have also have an impact on your decision.

I would say $24K-$25K and also depends on the condition.

i think that’s a fair deal. When you search autotrader nationwide, 2007s with around 30k mi are priced at around 26-27k. Lower miles have higher asking prices. This is IMO.

FWIW, I just purchased a 2007 Rio Yellow Pearl with 16,500 miles last month. Car was pristine (one owner 64 year old woman), all 10 VINs intact, leather with no wear marks, xpel on front.
Seller was asking 28K, I paid 27.5K. Seller threw in replacement wipers, air filter, 3 oil filters, and an OEM car cover. I flew to FL to get it. A similar local one with 22K mi was selling for 31K. I wouldn't say I got a great deal, but a fair deal.
