Official Is This Car Worth It Thread vol 3
I think it probably is. I test drove it last night and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it. But the seller purchased it 3 months ago from CarMax and was pretty vague about why he was selling it. Plus he seemed to know enough about it to know what the average selling price is. And I doubt CarMax charged less than $15k for it.
I'm considering getting a PPI on it but I think I'll probably pass.

When buying this kind of car I think the single most important factor is my assessment of the character of the seller. To me, that is more important than VINs and compression tests and miles etc. The moment I get even a whiff that the seller is not 100% forthcoming, I walk. if you have a good seller you will know all the known past issues with the car and you can assess them and determine the fair price for the car. Without that, you are flying blind and you can end up with heartaches, headaches, and a heap of metal to recycle out back.

Hi all, potientally picking up my first S2000 ! Really excited that I have possibly found “the one” after months of searching. I will keep this short and sweet and value your feedback.
The Car:
2002, Black on Black with 22,000 Miles for $16 K, is it a good deal? Traveling from Washington DC to the greater Atlanta area to check it out. Car belonged to someone who passed, the family is selling it. Real nice people and they said the car is perfect (all vins match, runs great etc).
What should be done:
If all checks with the pre car inspection - because the Car has been sitting, thinking I’d change all fluids (break, diff, tranny, oil, etc) and the tires. The tires and oil and a must I imagine, would it be smart if I had the other fluids changed as well or is it overkill? I’ll be driving it 700+ miles Home so I do want to be safe.

One Last thing to add because I do want your opinions on if it’s a good deal or not. The car is in mint condition, it still even has the airbag warnings on it. Its barely been driven which is why I am being cautious.
I think you'll get the car home fine with a fluid and tire pressure check. And run conservative speeds. The car is a Honda, after all. Once home complete change of fluids, including coolant and hydraulics is in order.
If in doubt drive down in a pickup or SUV and bring the car on a U-Haul trailer which runs about $100 for a one-way from Atlanta to Richmond. No strain in the car there. $500 will get the car transported but scheduling is vague at times.
