another local car to me:
2003 Silverstone Silver Metallic 33.5k mile car asking 19k obo

curious what you think this car is worth. I know this car was at an asking price of 21K+ (dreaming). Color hurts the value IMHO.... is an offer of 15.5k on a car like this lowball?

260 miles from me on the following:
2001 NFR w/black interior states 1 owner, 23.7k miles asking 17,621 - though this is a dealer. not sure I want to deal with a dealer.

Here's a 2001 Spa Yellow, 40k miles, Honda dealership bought at auction. Currently asking $18600

I checked it out; appears extremely clean, only blemishes I could find was a few rock chips on the nose and mirror, which were shoddily touched up; and some discoloration on the steering wheel and trim around the shifter. Has Bridgestone RE-11s all around, medium wear according to the fingertip test. Soft top looks original and good condition; the assumption is that it was left down and garaged. VINs match.

I'm not committed to the color and it was in the back of the showroom so I didn't test drive yet, but it looks great.

What's your verdict?

Yitznewton,
Although the '01 is a nice low mileage example, w/issues noted, the price seems a little on the high side. The region of the country the car is located might be a factor in pricing. Suspect you can negotiate yourself a better deal. Also need to determine how many owners, maintenance history, etc. For reference, last year purchased from a NC dealer a 2 owner MY'02, with 35K for $14.5, plus taxes, reg., etc. Only issues were a small repair to the top, some clear coat peeling on the rims and a very small ding on the drivers fender. Dealer had been asking close to $18K. GLWP!

If everything checks out, my top dollar on that car would be $15k. You can pick up an '04 or '05 with that kind of mileage for $18 - $18.5k, give or take depending on your location.

Any input on the following:
Silver 2003 33.5k miles one owner

IMHO guy is asking sky high money. I think the car is worth 14.5-16 tops given what I see.

Pics show some staining on the front wheels, and a couple spots of interior wear

this pic shows the front wheel, also looks like front bumper fitment is not 100%

left side of steering wheel:

Zivman,
The MY'03 S2K is a nice example of an AP1. While I don't blame the owner for trying to get top dollar...the asking price is too high. Probably worth the upper end of your suggested price range.

talked to the woman today for 20 minutes on the phone. I told her based on what I saw and she told me (had at least 2 dings) that my top dollar would be 15 on it. she advised me she had two offers from local dealers for 16k............ a couple months ago. She was a bit far from reality about the whole situation as I asked her about the wheels and interior wear, and her reply was "two different dealers told me how good the condition was". I said if you are serious about selling the car I would get on the phone with the dealers and snatch up the 16k offer. She advised me she really hadn't tried to market the car much and didnt want to take the low end price form the dealer. Keep in mind it's listed on craigs and carsoup (local internet car listing site). Then says, "well it's only been up a few days". In my world a few days would be around 3-5... in her world a few days is 22, with multiple price reductions. I even told her I was watching the car for a few weeks now and had seen the price reduced a couple times; "well, it's only been up a few days" She proceeded to tell me her brother had done well in a business dealing and bought all the siblings in the family these cars new back in 2003; 5 cars. She didn't even pay for it and rambled on about how the value should be holding steady (which I agree) and since "[she has] already eaten the depreciation, [she] may just hold on to it"...hmmmm a car she got for nothing, owned and drove for 12 yrs and then sold for 15k; not sure where her depreciation factors in. If she were a good sister she would give the car back to the brother or sell it and give him the proceeds.

it was kind of humorous. I just left it with, well if my 15k starts to sound more appealing give me a call and I will come out and see it.

thinking I am going to suck it up and pay the piper on the 2005 low miles red one.

IMO it's worth paying potentially more and not wasting your time with loonies like this. Frankly you might also get a better value on a better car from a clear-thinking straight-shooter if you can find a meeting of the minds. Granted I only know a few stories like that though I'm one of them, but I have no patience for this kind of nonsense, and it doesn't speak well of the person's ownership of the car.

Starting to think that. I honestly gave my best offer on the red one. I 'could' come up with what it takes to get it, but it will leave me a little leaner than I would like considering i have an issue with another car of mine. I know I wouldnt regret buying it. 17k mile 2005 in 9.95/10 condition nfr right in my backyard..... Only thing holding me back is I know I can find I a car I'd be happy with for 15-16k, but that means traveling

Zivman,
The MY'03 owner is a goof-ball ...an individual who feels a sense of entitlement and is being greedy. Unlikely any dealer offered her $16K because they would have to sell it for circa $20K, which the car is not worth. You handled that situation perfectly.

Regarding the NFR MY'05, maybe $20K buys it, which is a very fair offer. Good Luck!
