I will have had my Stook for 6 months on April 20th. I only have 1900 miles on it (damn NJ winters). Honda does not recommend changing the factory (so called break in oil) till 3750 miles. The dealer says to change it at six months no matter what.

What shall I do.

How does the oil look? If it is not sludge then I would leave it in. The dealer profits by having you change your oil.

The Severe Duty Maintenance schedule says 3,750 miles or 6 months whichever comes first.

I just had my 15,000 mile or 1 year service performed, although I only have 6,500 miles, because I purchased my car in March 2000.

Net/Net: Change the oil.

I haven't changed mine for the first time either. Is there really a product called break-in oil and if so, how does it differ from regular motor oil?

I changed mine at 1800mi. because 6mos. had passed. After 6mos. there will be moisture build-up, so you're better off changing it now.

Argetni,

Change is good.

I did mine at 5 months with 1500 miles. Mostly city driving with mucho vtec activity. The dealer felt changing the oil and filter at that point was fine.

My car is a year and a half old with 7000 miles. I have been changing the oil and filter every 2000 miles after the first change.

Ianbrown,

The dealer does not make money on the oil change here.

Under $14 complete when you purchase 12 changes.

You can have breakfast in the waiting room.

They would even wash and vacuum the car free (not that I would let them).

Argetni, to reiteerate a point I have made a number of times before. Here in Oz, the 1st oil and filter change (as provided by Honda in the 1st free service), occurs at 600 miles to get rid of all the crap (metal shavings etc.) that has been created during the pre-VTEC low rev run in.

For all you North American owners, I would be seriously concerned about going into VTEC without first having that oil change done. Get some nice clean blood in the system before putting some serious stress on that brand new motor!

Just follow what the manual says. 7500/1 year under normal driving. Severe is half those. If it needed it more often don't you think it would say so? Don't waste your money. Most new cars I'm seeing say around 5000 miles the new Corvette is 15000!

From what I've read and from this forum which is backed up by my dealer you shouldn't remove the breakin oil until 3500 miles. If your like others including myself you probably had to add oil anyway, mine is on its 2nd quart and has 2500 miles on it. I will change it for the first time at 3500 miles.
