Default Oil Change Interval...but with a twist

Ok...so I picked up my s2k about 3 weeks ago. It was one of the leftover 2007's.

Now I was looking at the service history book that came with the car. I noticed that
my dealer (Immke Honda) received the car on Sept 13th, 2007. I bought the car
on Feb 15th, 2008. That's 6 months of just sitting around.

Under normal circumstances, I would change the oil regardless because it has just
been sitting for a long time with the same oil in there ( i believe in the 3 mos or
3k rule).

But from reading on here, I understand that the initial oil in the car has some special
additives for the break in period of the first few thousand miles.

At this point, the car has 247 miles on it....and given the fact it is snowing again
here in Pittsburgh, PA, the car isn't going to be leaving the garage any time soon.

There was nothing in the owners manual to address this particular situation, so
I thought I'd post up to get some opinions.

So I'm just wondering if I should change the oil now (because i'm well past my 3 month
deadline) but if the first round of oil has a special additive for break in, would it be bad
to not run that oil in the engine for the first few k?

3 months or 3k miles = marketing bullsh*t

Run it until 3,750 or 7,500 miles, depending on if you're going to follow the severe or normal service interval....or just wait for your oil minder light to go off since you have an 07.

I bought a leftover 05 that was sitting at the dealer for maybe 5 months. Waited until the right interval to change the oil because of the special additives that people say is in the oil (no clue if it's still true. At 36k miles, my engine's great. I burn zero oil with non-track driving.

Change the oil per the user's manual (probably 7.5k miles). Why do you think you know more about the S2000 engine than the Honda engineers?

3 month rule is BS. Oil isn't like milk it doesn't have an expiration date.

I believe proper break in procedure is dino oil for hte 1st 10-12k miles. Maybe these are the "special additives" you're thinking of?

I suggest run it until 3k then just replace with the dino oil of your choice.

The "special additives" are just assembly lube. No need to keep the original oil because of that. Any high moly oil would be close.

That said, no need to dump what you've got just because it sat a while.

Definately finish the break-in period before changing the oil, from there go by the maintenace minder. The dash shows you the % of oil life, and I change my oil based on that.

I honestly don't know if the break-in oil is special or not, but why gamble.

Oil is millions of years old. It'll be okay for another three months.
