Default Oil Consumption

Hey everyone. Hope no one has gotten any speeding tickets Well, I have had this S2K for about a month now and have about 2500mi already. You can see I am really enjoying it. However, I have noticed that it is consuming about 1 dot on the stick about every 3 days or so. Is this normal??? or do I have a problem that I should bring to Honda's attention. The car was delivered new and didn't Vtec until past 600. Well, once just to make sure it was all there. Not hard though and when about 280mi on it. Anyways, this is our 6th Honda and not one did I ever have to add oil. Been adding oil about every 3days about as I said a dots worth. I accidently added Mobil 1 shearly by accident, same 1 dots worth. Do I have a problem??? In the mornings, or when I first get started the car sputters until it gets warmed up and worked up a bit and then it all goes away and it is fine. Please let me know....

Do a search on oil consumption and you'll find a bunch of threads on the same topic. The short answer to your question is it's normal, and sometimes it gets better over time and sometimes it doesn't. So do as the manual says and check it often.

Nerdboy,

Oil consumption on the S is very normal and can vary, so do not worry.

Look at the Library section at the top of this page and look under maintenance.

You should not use synthetic oil until proper break-in and mileage have been reached.

Welcome to the board and enjoy your S!

I burned oil for the first 76k miles on my first engine. Now I've burned oil on my first 13k miles on my second engine. I still check my oil at every fillup, and you should too.

3 fillups on mine, and besides just a touch of oil I was short on the first one, have had no percievable oil consumption. But I'm checking!

I've got a friend who says you should only check your oil when the car is cold - and not at the station when the car is warmed up and hot. Any thoughts on that??
