Default Opinions on 2002 for sale

Hey,

This is my first post, but I've been around the site several times over the past year.

I'm looking at purchasing a 2002 s2k, with only 16,000 miles. I figured this was a pretty good deal. KBB says its worth around $13k, but the seller is asking $15,900 as its miles are so low. The car looks good and our mechanic is going to take a look at the car monday, but I was wondering if anyone had an initial reaction to the asking price.

Thanks!

I don't know where you're located, but I think that price is in the ball park. For my area, I think it would sell for $14.5k to $15.5k. But be prepared for some posts saying it isn't even worth $13k.

I recently bought a very low mileage '02, and KBB was around $14k, but I had no problem paying over that amount. The specs: 4,702 miles, single owner, garage kept, never driven in snow or rain, VIN ends in 8029 so it's a young '02. Also, for reference, I sold my first '02 with 50k miles for $13.7k (had it on autotrader for exactly one week). That was in the end of June.

Hope this helps and good luck!

If you're patient you won't have to pay over KBB in this market. Rule #1 when shopping is don't fall in love with any car.

What is your location? I've been looking at several S2ks with 16k-32k miles and $15,900 is high for a stock 02, even with $16k miles. $13k seems right for the car you are looking at.

Keep in mind that even though it has very low miles, that car is nearly 10 years old and there are plenty of (boring) new cars you could get with your $15k that come with 0 miles, warranty, new car smell etc.
