Opinions needed on how long S2000's last.....in the hands of abuse
Assuming I hit the redline at least 10 times per day, and drive in excess of 100mph whenever possible, a few track days, etc....
How long would i expect the engine to hold together without completely burning oil/falling apart, etc....
My history of cars... sell them after I drive 20k miles just in case.
I like the S2000 enough to keep it, but.... is burning oil a warranty fix? the dealer knows i have taken the car "to the track"...does that change things.??
thanks...Scot

I bounced the rev limited off my 8,200 RPM del Sol VTEC with 100 HP/liter for a good 70,000 miles non-stop. When it came out, it had the highest red line and hp/liter around, just like the S2000 does now. Everyone told me I would throw a rod through my head just like they do now with my S2000. I know some old CLUB SOL guys who have 150,000 miles on their engines modified and still running great. The guy who has the fastest normally aspirated del sol (at a 14.0 second quarter) has been dragging his Sol for a good 5 years non stop. The S2000 will be no different, maybe even better since the quality of build is even better.
I don't think it will be a problem. It will last 100K+ miles. I don't think that operating the engine within its nominal range is abuse. Remember this, an engine does not know how far it has gone. Motor vehicles are the only motorized thing I can think of that measure engine life in terms of miles. Every engine has x number of revolutions it can make before it gives up and breaks. The occational jump to redline will not add that many revs in the course of its life. Driving 80 on the highway in 4th gear will significantly reduce the life of the engine. If it is well maintained and treated properly from a technical perspective it should last a long time.
Abuse:
- Not changing the oil regularly
- downshifting beyond redline range
- Not running with sufficient coolant
- etc.
Not abuse:
- Operating the engine within its nominal parameters
I would caution that hard driving will incur much more wear and tear on the other parts of the car, clutch, brakes, tires, diff, xmission, etc.
