Your insurance company might cover a repair without filling a claim; At least Allstate covered my wife's and my chips. You should also be able to make a claim to get the windshield replaced but you might have to pay a deductible.

The quality of the windhshields is not the best. I commute a lot and I did notice this windshield pits as much as my wife

Nothing comes close to the inferiority of Mini Cooper's windshield. Stress crack, chips, holes, and pitting is an everyday occurence. There are some owners that had to repalce their windshield four-five times. And BMW still refuses to accept that there is a huge problem with their product.
What!? Problems with a BMW Product? You can't be serious??
I paid for windshield covereage through my F & I. I can replace my windshield up to four times a year for the next five years. Without a deductible. I've already used it once after the Hill country tour. Best $260 I've ever spent on a F & I product.

Is there really a difference in the durability of glass in automobile windshields or this just a another case of the inevitable ... new stuff gets old ?

Most insurance companies will repair windshield chips with no deductible needed. If you've got a chip that hasn't cracked and spread further yet, it's worth calling to see if that's something your insurance provider does. Mine covers five chips a year at no cost to me. They send the mobile windshield repair guys out and it takes them less than 30 minutes.

Not Honda's fault. Their windshield do not suck. False statement on your part.

Windshields get hit by rocks - fact of life of today's automotive world. Sometimes it chips, sometimes it cracks, sometimes nothing really bad happens. I guess it's there so WE don't get hit by rocks.
I've had my windshield whacked, had it replaced and now have had it whacked again. Is it the windshield's fault that I may have followed too close to the car in front of me? Is it the windshield's fault that some bozo in a dump truck passed me and shook off gobs of rocks and pebbles that happen to hit it?

Ok, so the windsheilds don't suck but they're not that great either. I've noticed that my S2000 windshield gets more small knicks and chips than any other car windshield I've had.

I'm on my second one since I got the car in February and now have to replace it again b/c of a crack.

Get this, my windshield has it's fair share of small pin size pits in it from everyday driving. I've had bigger rocks hit the windshield before with no problem. One hit and made a small hole, but i got it filled and no problem. However, the one that caused the crack was as small as the smallest pits on the glass. No warning either. It just cracked and spread before I could even think about repairing it.

Could it be that you are sitting lower in the S relative to other vehicles you own and that is why you are getting more rocks? COuld it be that the angle of the windshield is such that it might catch a few more rocks that another angle would simply deflect. If it is that much of a burdon, get rid of the car and get something higher with a different angled windshield.

Done.

My windshield did its job when it took a hit from a golfball sized piece of metal. The impact made a nice chip in the windshield but it didn't shatter. Remember, the windshield on this car is much lower than others. We get windshield chips that others take on the grill.

It's been said that this is, on the most part, due to the "rake" of the windshield (ie, angle of attack). This is a characteristic of the design of the car, for which, I suppose, you could say was each of our "choices" for buying. It is also the "design" of the car that places the windshield at a level where it is in the "splash zone" for much more flying debris.
However, if the S2000 was designed in any other way, would all of us had still bought it?
