Umm...isn't that what glass coverage is for? Mine was covered by insurance.
It falls under my comprehensive coverage....$250 deductable.

Note about repairing chips etc.

The size and location of the damage will determine if it is suitable for repair or not.

If it is suitable for repair, then it is best to get it repaired within 24 hours for the best results.

Funny, I just got another chip today (stupid dumptruck!). USAA covers them which is great, but this one is finally on the driver's side; I'll see this one, the ones on the passenger side out of sight and out of mind. I'm sure if they don't get repaired the windshield will crack, especially with the winter months ahead.

I have about 3 noticeable rock chips on my 15 year old M3, cracks did not spread. Another 4 on the 10 year old 525, (one was filled, looked like ass, didn't bother to fix the rest) did not spread. So far so good on the other cars including the S2000. Must be the temperate weather in CA. I've noticed that our Scion's windshield is in EXTREMELY good shape, even after 27K miles and that's the commuter car with which we follow 18-wheelers on the freeway almost daily, so I think the extremely low angle of the windshield on the xA helps. The S2Ks angle isn't that low, so maybe that's why that car is more sucseptible? Plus being so low to the ground can't help. Cheers.

Send a letter to the dumptruck's owner informing them of the incident (when, where, etc) and ask for reparations. If this fails, find out where the trucks sleep at night and return the favor.

I had my windshield replaced about 3 months after I bought my car. Got a solid rock hit, 20 minutes later it was cracking 1/4 across the windshield. By the time they got out to swap windshields it was pretty much the length of the windshield.

Insurance covered it, and granted it was a pain in the ass, but if that's the biggest complaint on the car I think we're doing good.

My windshield got hit so hard by a rock this morning that I get pelted with glass shards from the inside of the glass coming apart right behind the point of impact. Theres glass in the passenger seat and all over the dash...when I stopped I could even see a few bits in the top behind me glittering away.

All I can say is thank god it didn't hit my hood or bumper...a windshield is pretty minor comparatively.

I wasn't going more than 60mph at the time and never saw it coming.

Gran Prix...did you post that just to keep your PPD average up? Or did you think I should be starting a new thread when a relevant one already exists that I could simply add to?

It's not like I dragged up thread that was several years old. Consider this proof that the search feature works, and that I use it.
