Add some titanium springs and retaners and an EMS and you've got your 9000 rpms back.
have fun doing maintenance on your head every 15-20k miles. titanium valves are for race engines and imo a complete waste of time for street driven cars. stainless steel do the job just fine and last a lot longer.

Hey, the AP1 is the one that took the world by storm, which makes it the classic. Jiggling with the lights and trimming does not freshen up the original S concept one iota. If the AP1 came after the AP2 (in looks) then it would be the AP1 that all the looks / comfort savvy ppl. would be going on about, just because its newer. The AP1 lines are pure and clean IMO.

Interestingly enough, the way the AP1 comes (stiffer suspension, loose back etc.) is exactly what all tuners do to their rides to get them to handle better, if even at the expense of some comfort. When we had civics and the like, what did we do? Not put springs / shocks way too hard for the road and a big-ass roll bar in the back to make the back step out (or tame the terminal under steer)? AP1 got all that built in

I have owned both, and I will say they are still very similar. You guys are splitting hairs. I don't know why another one of these threads pops up every two days... For all of you guys with AP1 fever, why is it that the only support you can give for your fandom is 9k rpms? There has to be a more substantial reason than that to like your car. Do you throw a party every time you go up to 9k rpms? Do you shoot fireworks out of your exhaust when you spin up that high?
I said it once, and I will say it again. Why can't you guys accept innovation and change? And, dare I say it... IMPROVEMENT! I suppose you guys who claim your "true" AP1 S2000s are superior are still using Windows '95, listening to cassette tapes, and using Dot matrix printers? I am not denying the excellence of the AP1, I am simply saying that you guys need to slack off of AP2. It just seems like those of you who constantly slam the AP2 are just envious of the newer cars. Why do you feel the need to constantly justify and defend your car when no one is putting it down? No one is putting the AP1 on trial!?!?!?!
I had it, and yeah- it was cool, but there is a lot more to this car than the redline. And to the people who think that the only thing that sets this car apart from the rest of the pack is the 9k redline- why not factor in the other attributes? (ie handling, weight balance, lightweight, rigid chassis, build quality, reliability, price, etc) There are more merits to the S2000 than a simple 9k redline... think outside of your little box!
I would like to see people talking about how similar our cars are instead of how different they are. What's funny is most people don't even know this car exists... Even fewer can tell ANY of the changes that were made to the car... and even fewer yet will notice when it is no longer made. Stop squabbling- we are all brothers and sisters here.

Drive both, their isn't a huge difference. Ap2's are better in day to day life, Ap1s are more exciting to some. Personally I wanted an ap1 because I like a car that challenges and rewards my hard work. If the stiffer rear of the ap1 scares you a little, but you still want the f20, then go with an '03 as the rear springs are a lot less stiff compared or the first years (just about every year the rear spring rates were decreased some).

torque is overrated. My Yamaha makes 43 ft lbs and still runs the 1/4 mile stock in 11.3 seconds.... 14K rpm FTW! That's why I didn't by the SV650...high revs are fun! Same reason I chose a mint, low mileage AP1 over an average AP2....9K>8K.

I don't really think anyone is being bent out of shape here except you. Simmer down man. It's just a discussion.

We all want to support our buying decisions. For me, I bought the AP1 for the 9k redline. Coming from tracking motorcycles, high revs get me pumped up.

AP1 FTW

The real debate is whether the 00-01 or 02-03 is better:

00-01 Pros:

No frills
No tweeters
More Basic head unit
No chrome rings
No silver interior accents
Less idiot proof, more fun suspension
Carpet console

02-03 Pros:

Glass rear window
All the bugs worked out
Better ECU
Strengthened clutch?
Newer

I love all of the changes to the Ap2. Yes it would be nice to have the 9k redline but that is about it.
